Favorite Moments of 2011

I'll answer on behalf of my 3 1/2 year old who, BTW, sat through not one, but 3 nights of drum corps with very few meltdowns (if you have littleones, you know what I mean):

Cadets - "where is that girl in the flowy dress" (the angel at the end)

Blue Devils - "I want to see those men in those boxes"

Cavaliers - "When are the men on the stilts coming on?"

Crown - "Too Loud"

Phantom - "Why is that man laying on the ground?" (Romeo)

SCV - "Christmas colors!"

Bluecoats "Boooooooo". (We tried to correct her but.... she's 3 :) )

Boston - "TENTS!!!"

Blue Knights - "Dots!!!" (After a close up of their uniform showed up on the big screen)

Madison - "Mommy, why are you crying?" (My wife marched Suncoast who Robert Smith wrote for in the 80's. That man can write music!)

Blue Stars - "Daddy, are those guys going back on the stage?" (as horn players march off the platforms). Also, "Go Howard!" (said wife also marched with Howard Weinstein in Suncoast in the 80's)

Spirit - She danced during the balad so she must of liked it.

These are ranked in random order:

1. Crossmen returning to their roots. Just a great show.

2. Spirit with a comeback show worthy of listening to over and over again.

3. Crown's brassline. Just brilliant.

4. Yokohama Scouts - This corps is good.

5. Marc Sylvester's drill design for the Blue Knights - Yes, he still has what it takes and never lost it.

6. Trooper's Infinity Chord

7. Cadets' Show was a great blending of artistic story telling and music. Glad they won.

In fact, I think this the best overall bottom 6 of the top 12 I have EVER seen.

Cadets entire show....

...but more specifically, the demon in the beginning tossing that horn on the field and the crowd gasping in horror.

Madison - from start to finish (Music wise) and especially ESOM

BK - the single tenor drums played by the pit

Boston - the Bari solo from heaven

Phantom - that Godly hornline - Should have won the Ott

SCV's drumline - just as precision as it gets!

Crossmen - I was completely feeling the groove again

Crown - Bohemian Rhapsody

Oregon Crusaders - What a corps!

EDIT: Oh - and the freaking CADETS! Powerful, fast, amazing! They completely deserved the win.

Crown's Herbert slowly walking off the turf at the end of Saturday's show.

When he reached the tunnel, about 12 Crown staff applauded his exit.

...after watching Phantom's main Juliet gaze longingly at a black helmet, then spend a few shows putting a sword to her chest contemplating death - to see her go thru the death sequence. Dramatic and a perfect ending to the last show of the season!!!!

And as others have stated, I agree with all the shows parts that have been listed. EVERY show this year had its 'moment'.....every show.
