Did they previously announce a departure? Does this suggest something for PR?

From the announce on The Academy web site.

Former Brass Caption Head, Christian Carichner announced this week to The Academy that after 6 years of involvement with the corps, he was going to be stepping down from his post as Brass Caption Head for the 2012 season. Under his direction for the past 3 years, Christian has helped to grow a comprehensive brass program and educational environment that was unsurpassed in the history of the corps. We know that Christian will be moving on to great things and continuing to impact students at the highest level in all circles of music. All at The Academy wish the best of success in the future. He will always remain an important piece in The Academy family history.

That should be great. Andre was an amazing caption head at Santa Clara, he should do great at the Academy. I was secretly hoping for a return to SCV, but him being with another West Coast Corps is always good. Hopefully this change can bring them into the Top 12. No matter what, his instructional style will make some amazing people and musicians out of those kids in Tempe.

This also makes sense geographically: Arizona is closer to and easier to get to from El Paso, where Feagin is the Associate Director of Bands and Director of Athletic Bands at UTEP, than was the Bay Area. Glad to see him get back into drum corps after a brief time away, and looking forward to hearing his Academy hornline.
