If you can find FIU in 2006, they used very large, umbrellas. Fantasia used umbrellas in their "snow" show a few years back. And Anderson HS used them for their "Englishman in New York" show

1977 Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps used umbrellas well. Umbrellas and collapsible top hats are tricky props.

Gadgets work well most of the time; if not, it's worse than a drop, oh my :-)

Edit: not 78. Watched the vid; the 1977 Blue Stars had umbrellas. SCV had parosols one or more years.

Blue Stars were the first corps to use umbrellas on the field, and you're right, Linda, it was 1977. Santa Clara's guard used parasols in '83 and '84, and also used big red umbrellas in the opener to their "Miss Saigon" show in 1991.

Didn't Onyx also use them a couple of years ago?

Phantom Regiment also used them in their Gerswhin show in '2005 (I think that's the right year).

Iused them in a show a long time ago - they are hard to clean if you really do alot of movement with them!

Later,

Mike

2009 Bluecoats had an umbrella, red on the outside, blue on the inside at the beginning of their show. At the end, it was blue on the outside, red on the inside. Reversalble unbrellas? At a retreat in 1982, Blue Devils DMs brought beach umbrellas for Velvet Knight DMs. Very cool and fun! Did you know golf umbrellas have a 60" spread? You could hide at least 3 people behind those umbrellas; lol
