Rocketman
78 Phantom (Firebird Suite) - Sheer Power! Of my 4 years, that opener was the ultimate. Even at rehearsal, we played that balls out. There really was no other way to play it. Even when we were given the "one more time" line, we'd want to keep rehearsing. Rocketman - one more time, again ampssuck

ffernbus3
When I hear "goose step" I am always reminded of how badly the 1967 Anaheim Kingsmen Color Guard was dissed for the use of the goose step in their guard competitions. Even trying to explain that it was used as a "theatrical step" didn't set well with some judges and fans. I thought it was pretty impressive and well-done, but I was way less than impartial.....those shined-to-perfection knee high riding boots the women wore were nothing short of spectacular in the way they portrayed the persona of The Anaheim Kingsmen! elphaba01
"Greatest Openers": "Back in the day", we used to call them "Off the Lines". Some that still standout include: 1960: Blessed Sacrament: "National Emblem March". 1961-62: Chicago Cavaliers: "Riff Song". 1963-64: St Kevins Emerald Knights: "Voice of the Guns". 1965: Chicago Royal Airs: "Ballyhoo March". 1966: Casper Troopers: "How the West Was Won". 1968: Racine Kilties: "Strike Up the Band" 1969: Blessed Sacrament: "ElCid" & Chicago Cavaliers: "Ten Commandments" 1970: Boston Crusaders: "Conquest/Captain From Castile". There were many more great "openers" that era, but these come to mind. Elphaba

GGarrett
holy criminy Zed... perusing DCP from back to front now? (Kinda how I read a magazine, actually, so I will now shut up...) It was said here before...but Blue Devils Channel One Suite in '76 was the greatest. Maybe "Numero Uno" by Scouts in '81 ...
