Santa Clara Vanguard 2012

Yet Myron Rosander had a higher average Vis GE placement and that's counting the 2005 disaster.

Silly Goose - not talking about Myron whose work I admire.

As far as the prior years, to paraphrase a staffer that I had that won a very prestigious award with SCV when they marched: "There is the musical phrase and there is also a Pete phrase. They are rarely the same". Knowing staff members from that time, there was also some questionable voice staging too.

I guess Cavies were able to resolve that issue with their designer.

Oh

Are his ideas brilliant? Yes, some of the drill he has come up with is mind blowing.

But. . .

There is a phrase with comedy writers: "It maybe be your best joke ever but if doesn't fit your act, don't use it".

DCI is not comedy but thanks for the comparison.

I just told you an insiders view on what the issue was but you failed to realize it.

SO let me put it into English...

His early drills where too hard. Remember that cool mello circle move in the 2006 opener? It had music but he wrote that move and the music had to be removed. Remember the baritone feature that had the baritone at a 6 step interval and spread 40 yards apart? How the drumline is on the side 1 20 and the rhythmic melody is on the side 2 25?

He put members into positions where they can't achieve (Sans 2009). Gaines doesn't do that, despite the subset madness.

But thanks for reminding me why I stopped going on to DCP for 10 months of a year.

Are you a Telletubby?

Me, obscure poster for almost 10 years reminds you why you should not post for 10 months of the year? Let me suggest something to you....."get off the internet - you aren't meant for it."

I think his point is that Weber's drill (and IMO all of DCI generally) is like a Michael Bay movie.

Lots of "cool stuff" is happening... but it's not connected to anything and would be 10x better if it actually were. Instead all we have is cool stuff happening every 10 seconds to keep low attention spans happy.

Also, CloudHype is a drill writer so I think he knows what he's talking about.

Edit: Are you saying that DCI isn't similar to other artistic mediums? I'm a little confused by the above quote.

If it's "Michael Bay," he's watered down the best "explosions" recently.

I wonder what corps never quite advanced with the concept of "He's a drill writer so I think he knows what he's talking about....."

You just restored my faith in DCP. Thanks!

You just restored my faith in DCP. Thanks!

I wonder if other drill writers have reacted the same way. One person could influence so much. That would be something I think.....definitely for the APA.

I like Pete Weber - I think he does brilliant stuff. I'm sorry you are so threatened/offended by it.

I've taken time off DCP for similar reasons as you so I can relate haha. Plus I think I remember you from #drumcorps in IRC back in the day, so I consider you a reliable source.

Back on topic; would you consider this year's SCV/Weber drill to be better written than previous years? The first time I saw this show it really reminded me of Rosander drill, but I haven't really taken time to overanalyze it yet.

Cloud hype just pretty much said what I've been saying for years.

As a result of this discussion and the horrible and damaging effects it has done on my ego and general persona, I plan to do the following:

1. Throw my PC and cell phone off my balcony and only use smoke signals to communicate from now on.

2. Sell my car and only take horse-drawn transit from now on.

3. Never plan to accept any "new" thoughts that might enhance my life.

4. Never use electricity again.

5. Never shave my beard again.

Good bye modern world. DCP and the Santa Clara Vanguard 2012 thread have affected me in ways you can't imagine......
