soccerguy315
the Cadets are far and away the best in DCI at this... they are not only videos, but they are high quality as well. edit: imagine if every corps put out this much content? it would be awesome. I have no idea how much this operation costs them. Edited January 8, 2012 by soccerguy315
DCIHasBeen
Cadets have really done some amazing video work over the past couple of years ... Really raising the bar for corps transmedia experiences.
Michael Boo
Yes. All PR is hype. And I'm not saying that's a bad thing. Just not something I pay much attention to. Not sure why I'm getting jumped on for having an opinion. Say, pahdner...you new to these parts?
DCIHasBeen
Whether it comes from the corps or someone else, or is footage from last year or this year, it's still hype. Some dig it. Some don't. Again, I'm more interested in the actual performances rather than what each corps PR department puts out. You asked for opinions. I gave you mine. No need to get negative just because my opinion doesn't match yours. Yes and no...Sure it's promotion, but it's more. Using transmedia (a combination of print, video, and other multi-media technologies) is another way of engaging with the audience, and extending the experience. Drum Corps is no longer about just 11 minutes on a field in the summer...It's 24x7, all year long. Drum Corps is a lot more than just about the competitions...Any media experience that brings fans and other marchers closer to that experience, and sharing it from different points of view, only increases drum corps' reach as an entertainment media. In short, it ain't all just advertising...
charlie1223
And today Mr. Hopkins gave a very short clip of Carol of the Bells on his facebook page. Very good stuff.
whitedawn
I'm very interested with just how much information and media the Cadets have been putting out this past year. Between their Always a Cadet videos, their show update videos/articles, the Amazing All Access Videos on youtube they just seem to be putting out the most interesting, engaging, free content than any other marching organization. They had just released this amazing footage from the corps victory run after finals, with on the field cameras. And I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the video! So what do you all think of the free Cadets Media? They are on top of their game IMO. Wow, they sound absolutely gassed, but this is awesome. I wish there was something like this for the 1998 encore. Crazy stuff.
charlie1223
Part II of the victory Run! Webinar Series with instructional Staff?! Who does this kind of thing in the drum corps world? lol
kickhaltsforlife
As critical as I am about Hop. I do give him respect where it is earned. He may be stubborn with his opinons, but he does keep an open mind when it comes to his business. It seems like there is a Cadets video on my news feed on facebook numerous times per week. Between official postings and friends posting videos. They definitely have the largest online presence right now. I wish more corps would kick it up a notch. Crossmen just recently started a youtube channel posting clips of past shows, and linking stuff to DCI.org and Fan Network. So hopefully we will see more from them. BD i would say is second to Cadets in free media. I often see some postings of clips by them also. And a few corps used live streaming services last season a few times. Hard to set up while on the road, but preseason and spring training stuff is cool. If a corps can afford it, they need to be putting more out there. The more on the interwebs, the more chances it reaches a new fan. Especially on YouTube.
kickhaltsforlife
Also a good model for putting out some high quality media is the Berlin Phil YouTube channel and their Digital Concert Hall. The clips they put up are awesome.
2000Cadet
I'm less concerned with the media corps put out and more with the product on the field at the end of the year. It's been a long time since I really liked a Cadets show. That's not to say they aren't well designed, just not really a design I'm a huge fan of. That said, I look forward to seeing them this summer in the hopes that they will buck that trend. I guess the point is, preseason hype doesn't really mean much to me. Except, those videos aren't PRE season hype. More like postseason "here is how they looked from field level". I think these videos are VERY cool; a lot more than what we get from other corps at the end of the season. I get what you're saying though. I think last year's show definitely lived up to the hype, MUCH better than the previous couple years. I'm still nervous about this year's show especially after Angels and Demons, but I'm looking forward to the fact Cadets will be on the east coast a lot more this year than last.
