It's one thing to be good in a concert hall, practice room, or DCA. It's another to be a World Class soloist for a perennial DCI powerhouse. To those who are, for whatever asinine reason, crying foul: Sounds like good business; I'm sure NONE of the current mello section will audition. Or maybe, like the article states, it isn't a matter of tailoring the music.* Maybe, like the article states, they are looking for a featured soloist that will somehow tie the show together and need to communicate to the audience throughout the stadium. It truly amazes me the lengths people will go find offense sometimes. * But lets pretend it was. How would you go about choosing which member you'd tailor the solo for? You wouldn't go out and do something crazy like having the line audition for it would you? Noooooo....
