Given the way sentiments have been going on this thread I wouldn't want to be THAT person. Can you imagine the verbal assaults from the stands?

Or maybe they are just in desperate need of people so they can field a full horn line.

Just speculating of course smile.gif

I'm shocked and chagrined! :-O

Actually, this is either one of George's greatest ideas or one of his dumbest!

Where's Palladin when you need him? "Have Mello Will Travel"

Yes.

Holding an audition for specific part has got to be one of the dumbest ideas ever....

Can't be any worse than when they auditioned for a singer in '06.

At least this person will be playing a brass instrument.

Speaking of that, I assume Little Jeffery had to audition too.

Money says no individual WITHOUT World Class DCI experience stands a chance.

It's one thing to be good in a concert hall, practice room, or DCA. It's another to be a World Class soloist for a perennial DCI powerhouse.

To those who are, for whatever asinine reason, crying foul:

Sounds like good business; I'm sure NONE of the current mello section will audition. Because none of them are talented nor do they want $1500 to take to the bank.

Really?

So instead of tailoring the music to the players they have they decide "Maybe you guys won't cut this we're gonna look for others but feel free to try. That would make me feel great.

Or maybe, like the article states, it isn't a matter of tailoring the music.*

Maybe, like the article states, they are looking for a featured soloist that will somehow tie the show together and need to communicate to the audience throughout the stadium.

It truly amazes me the lengths people will go find offense sometimes.

* But lets pretend it was. How would you go about choosing which member you'd tailor the solo for? You wouldn't go out and do something crazy like having the line audition for it would you? Noooooo.... 'cause that would almost certainly be a slap in the face for the members who didn't make the cut.
