Advertising in Drum Corps

but DCI had to pay ALOT to get on ESPN. And it wasn't worth the expense.

Jeff,

I realize that aspect - I was replying to the subthread where someone stated "I wish it were on ESPN again" and Stu replied

Why? Not many wanted to pay for advertising; not that many watched; it costs a bunch of money; so what would be the point?

My reply was more along the lines of people wanting the "free to them" aspect that has come up in more recent responses...

everybody wants free to them. Even rich people. But someone has to pay to make that happen.

PBS dropped DCI because people didn't follow through on pledges.

ESPN wasn't making money.

What do you suggest? I don't see name advertisers or networks lining up to make this happen

My bad if it sounded like that I wanted the "free to them"; I was trying (and apparently failing) to be glib in my initial reply...I should have used the  smiley after...

Back to the topic at hand; I don't have a good or even decent answer - the TV audience is so splintered due to so many choices that unless it's a known big event (Super Bowl, Final Four, Olympics) getting reasonable viewership is probably impossible.

FWIW, I'd be thrilled to have the opportunity to purchase an HD streaming feed of Finals...

I gotcha...and to help Stu out, rare that it may be  ...

he is talking financially. You arent going to draw newbies in as fans at todays prices unless they already have the bug.
