ToferVis
So obviously...we've had a crazy year so far with the scores...corps who weren't even in finals are placing 6th! So the question....is the new judging format really having that much havoc on the activity in its first year of implementation...or are these corps really just 'that' good this year? **Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with the upset, I welcome it! Cookies
I personally think some corps are just starting to 'get' what makes a crowd pleasing show. It's really not that hard. Certain corps should stop trying to reinvent the wheel!

ToferVis
Which corps that hasn't been in finals has placed 6th? *Sorry meant 7th/8th...but in reality I'm referring to Madison and Crossmen doing so well.

ToferVis
Why is that a surprise? I never said it was... I asked if the talent level of these corps suddenly jumped or if the new scoring is the reason...
Roark1
In the case of Madison, having Lee Beddis as caption head certainly seems to have improved the talent level of the percussion section. Overall, the corps has been improving in all areas over the last three seasons under Chris Komnick. Edited July 9, 2012 by Roark1
ShortAndFast
I don't think it has much to do with the new sheets. The Crossmen are obviously a vastly improved product from last year. They would also have scored much better on the old sheets. Similarly, the Cavaliers are obviously much weaker than last year and would have dropped on the old sheets. The main effect of the new sheets seems to be to hold down scores across the board - almost every group is scoring lower than last year on the same date. It's too soon to tell whether the new sheets have changed things for groups of very similar abilities (i.e. who comes out on top when two corps are within 1 point). bobjective
Madison has a put a first class staff in place starting in 2010. They brought in Jim Mason and the old Star of Indiana staff. Then they added top Crown people this year. That along with Chris Komnick, and the recruiting of more talent sets the Scouts up for moving forward every year. And, to answer your question, yes the Scouts are that much better!
bobjective
From all indications starting in 2010, that staff put in place a 3 to 4 year plan to be able to start competing for the title again. I think that they will have a break out year next year, with 2013 being their 75th anniversary. I am already hearing some buzz about it and it is going to be mind blowing!!!
