Dublin Does Drum Corps

Recommended Posts

Trumpet soloist reprising Earth Song as the corps spreads out on the field, playing back field.

Final high note from another soloist, also backfield, as the corps finishes the show.

Very strong performance, Crossmen.

We have a 30 minute intermission. I'll be back then.

Thanks for these updates... they are pretty darn good!

Thanks. I was off when I did my coverage of the Bowling Green show, more negative than I needed to be, so my focus is on the achievement I see on the field tonight.

When your corps goes steampunk, you should rub some bacon on it:

Next on the field are the Troopers from Casper, Wyoming. Their 2012 program is entitled "This Was the Future" and consists of:

Music for Theater by Copland, Aaron

The Heiress by Copland, Aaron

I love how the Troopers' tuba section comes on the field as a train, complete with tuba motion to mimic the movement.

Horns doing snap moves during the preshow. Kind of like doing the drum corps robot, but not like the Cavaliers.

Wind-up sounds lead into an "old timey recording" of a carnival barker informing us what to expect.

Horns start playing almost as soon as they are announced. Totally different opening to the show than the start of the season, works much better, more of a statement that the corps has arrived, although they do work the Infinity Chord in there.

This is definitely some of Copeland's more experimental music.

Excellent baritone solo.

This show flows much better than at the start of the season. I'm getting the theme of the show more now. The steampunk outfits of the guard and pit helps, too.

Nice mute playing by the trumpets.
