Jim Anello
Just saw this on Facebook, and I thought it ought to be posted here. I never knew Jerry Kirby, but I knew of his work with the Kilties as a drum instructor. http://www.hmbreview.com/news/music-pioneer-dies-in-pescadero-accident/article_05782920-e0de-11e1-a786-0019bb2963f4.html
garfield
“I figured that after years of contributing to hearing loss working for rock bands, teaching drum corps and building technologies for recording studios, that I should try to build technologies to help with the hearing loss I helped create.” Very sad. My brother worked with him in silicon valley and I got to play chops with him 20 years ago. He always had a pair of sticks in his hands. His forearms were like tree trunks, and he bragged to me that he'd had surgery on both wrists because the snare muscles he developed pinched the nerves and cut off feeling to his hands. He was a monster player who loved the activity. He once joked to me that the only reason he carried sticks around was because he wasn't able to legally walk around with his own wood in his hands. A line I never forgot... I'm sure he'll be missed in the digital audio industry as well as marching percussion.
Appleknocker
Many years ago he gave me a different outlook on life and drum corps. He will be sadly missed.
