Blue Knight have announced their 2013 staff:

The Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps is pleased to announce its 2013 staff, an exciting blend of new and familiar faces to the corps. While a majority of the design team has been in place for several years, the Knights are welcoming artists, who while new to the corps, are no strangers to the activity or one another.

DCI Hall of Fame member Ralph Hardimon will once again serve as the Music Coordinator and Percussion Designer in his 13th year with the Blue Knights. He is joined by fellow Hall of Fame member Jay Bocook, now in his fourth year as the Brass Arranger. Tim Newburn, serving in his fifth year as the Colorguard Designer, will step into the role of Program Coordinator alongside veteran consultant Jed Weeks, also in a new role as the Audio/Visual Coordinator. Electronics specialist and Sound Designer, Tony Nunez will also be returning for a third year with the corps.

The Blue Knights are excited to introduce three new members to its creative team. J. C. Caceres joins the corps as Visual Designer. J. C. is fresh off his gold medal season with DCI Open Class Champion Oregon Crusaders. Tommy Keenum of The Band Hall will serve as Artistic Consultant bringing with him many of DCI and WGI’s most memorable moments as well as a forward thinking vision for The Blue Knights. Tim Pierce will serve as Visual Coordinator and offers the corps a diverse portfolio of work in the performing arts as well as twenty-three years adjudication on the national level.

Returning Brass and Percussion Caption Heads, Brad Toth and Brian Stevens will continue to lead the programs they have been building in Denver with largely returning staffs. The colorguard staff, now in its fifth year with the corps, will add Caption Head Brandy DuBose to the team. They will also welcome back special consultant April Gilligan-Martinez for a second year with the guard.

“It’s exciting to have some of our activity’s greatest designers and creators working alongside some of the activity’s most promising up and comers”, stated Blue Knights Executive Director Mark Arnold. “This, combined with the stability of our instructional staff, certainly bodes well for our coming year!”

I don't know anything about most of the names, except the two Hall of Famers. I'll have to ask my son what he thinks.

In the mean time, any thoughts from y'all...particularly about the three new members?

I thought Glen Crosby was the percussion caption head last year? Either way, Brian Stevens is an AMAZING educator who is far too often overlooked in this activity. I anxiously await what good things come from him and Ralph at BK. Their percussion section was stellar this year, and it will only get better with time!

Well, Rocky, I can't say a whole lot, except you may be seeing even more changes coming soon. We'll just have to see how this plays out.

Letting Sully go was a big one; I haven't seen too much speculation on here about where he's going. There’re going to be some shockers which are going to blow some people's minds, oh yes, just when everyone thought they knew who was going where and who was safe. Drum Corps are competitive; decisions can be made and then changed shocking DCI followers. :omg:

You have to ask yourself, who else may leave BK over some of these new decisions? Were there a few key staff members that may have had their toes stepped and decided to leave for greener pastures? When DCI competes there are corps paying attention to other staff members and many are approached along the way and asked to consider changing corps to join their corps the next summer to teach, they like their style. Many don’t act on it due to their corps’ loyalty but what happens when that changes? Did some more staffers walk out on BK within the last few days because of these decisions and call a few of those corps telling them they wanted to talk? "Stability" isn't a word I'd be throwing around right now!

Will there be backlash in BK’s decision making all the way around this past month? I guess it’s up to the Executive Director and Board Members who made these decisions to hope for the best. Good Luck!

Tune in next week, same Bat-time, same Bat-channel...

I seriously doubt they're making the one change they really NEED to make.

They never have and never will....like someone has said, the best thing about Pioneer is ############....the worst thing about Pioneer is ############.

I've heard that Pioneer is changing things up and will be exploring the music of Mongolian throat singers.

Will there be singing, or brass playing ?

Tommy Keenum was responsible for those great Sky Ryders shows of the 80s; Wizard of Oz and West Side Story. He has also worked with Cadets, Pride of Cincinnati Winter Guard and Final Analysis WG. He is known for thought provoking and really emotional shows.

With JC, Tommy and Tim Pierce, I expect an incredible guard and some amazing story telling.
