Kevin Powell
Great information and very clear assessments of Drum Corps today vs yesterday. As a so called "tadpole" (I like that by the way), I can only imagine the corps before the 80s. My traditional corps are those of the 80s. We still marched and Played bugles. I do believe the changing of the guard in the 90s forever altered the activity beyond the Drum & Bugle Corps that once was. This is actually my reasoning to just let them innovate and let them try whatever they want. I think some will eventually explore backwards toward tradition rather than forward. This happens quite often in the other creative arts. Why not with corps? There is a reason we still hear (portions or snippets) of classical music. The respect of old is still there (but at times they might tear those wonderful woks apart) I do despise the cut and paste found in today's shows. BUT... the kids are rocking it.
