Now i never heard G horns in person but werent they louder than Bb horns?

fuller/richer sounding and personally they sounded louder to me.

I could hear the overtone series much clearer with the bugles which made it sound like more people wete playing. Conical bore also some to do with that.

Sops were kind of like hot rod G cornets. They had a little more mello warmth to their sound and were easier push to the limit with sounding quite as bright and harsh.

I can play my sop louder than my trumpet now... if that is any measure.

Maybe I'm...new-fashioned?...but I base my answer while taking into account rhythmic accuracy. Does anyone else do this? I feel like this is really glossed over. I HATE when someone's all "OH MY GOSH THIS HORNLINE IS AMAZING" when all you hear is *BAAAAH....hsueifben....iskepfjwndkgori.....BAAAAH!* Where the in-between was drill.

Having said that:

Cavaliers 2006

Star 1990

We had 4 Jim Ott Awards on the wall in Star Hall following the 1993 season which were for 1990, 1991, 1992, and 1993.

And all 4 of those years were amazing. I'm surprised more people aren't recognizing that, but then again, lots of drum corps fans seem to have very short term memories...

Spirit of Atlanta 1980 was the loudest corps I have ever heard. I still have Old Man River ringing in my ears.
