And all 4 of those years were amazing. I'm surprised more people aren't recognizing that, but then again, lots of drum corps fans seem to have very short term memories...

Or they just weren't born yet...

These poll results always skew towards the most recent performances. Lots of people voting that never saw the older shows.

For loudest corps, there shouldn't be a single vote for any corps after the G era. No one has come close. Those horns projected so much better, particularly the sopranos vs trumpets, that you really can't compare them.

For the best hornline, it was tough, but I chose 2002 Cavaliers. Everything was so well blended and the intonation was superb! For the loudest, I was deciding between the 1989 Phantom Regiment and 1988 Madison Scouts. I think the use of G bugles helped their projection. I went with Phantom Regiment.

Just in case anyone is interested in reality,

Blue Devils won brass in 1988.

Blue Devils also won brass with Star of Indiana in 1991

Garfield Cadets won brass in 1987, there was no tie.

There WAS a three way tie for brass in 1995. Three corps were awarded the brass title in 1995.

Carry on

Thanks, G. That '88 Devils hornline was phenomenal. I'm surprised it isn't mentioned more often.

I'm glad they came up with a tiebreak system. Not that the announcer remembers there's a tiebreak system, even though he read a description of it before presenting the caption awards (Visual this year was NOT a tie, as announced, Crown won it).

I was barely alive when Star went off to do Blast, but I still voted for them for both best and loudest horn line. Yes, most of the results are skewed toward the more recent shows, but it seems like most of the people are here are from the 70s and 80s, so the heart of the G bugle era.

Crown the last few years has been very loud, but also have a much better tone than I can hear on lots of the old recordings, but some people just want the volume.

I thought SCV alone won brass in 1987?

Nope, there was a tie there. Sadly, the last time SCV won brass, and it was a tie with Garfield

Overall best.... Crown's hornline this year was technically incredible in terms of raw performance skills. Best book techically/Effectwise....... no.

I can think of several others who do more for me in those areas- Star '91 for instance.....
