Glassmen go inactive for 2013

Recommended Posts

Well, maybe not directly from the casino's themselves, but funds are available from gaming revenue in or area, and a couple groups I am involved with have been awarded grants,...........Look Here

Interesting..... any idea if that is from the casinos or part of lottery? Thinking about it I really haven't heard anything about what PA does with their cut of Casino profits. All I hear about Penn National money is if/when the roads are going to be upgraded for the increased traffic. The big stink is 10% of the parking lot is in Lebanon County and LC is raising Hell that they aren't getting their fair share. Considering the increased traffic load from that direction (Indiantown Gap to Penn National via my sisters place  ) it's a valid stink.

These grants come from casino gaming revenue,...........it is some sort of kickback to the host and neighboring communities that comes from the state,.........here is a different link that may help answer,........look here

Thanks will read closer when I get a chance. Still totally clueless what "Hollywood" (dumb ### name considering the location) is helping so will have to google the Dauphin/Lebanon County fights over money to the counties.

edit: Just remembered a 80s Playboy article on horse racing that listed Penn National Race Course (where Hollywood Casino is located). Listed under worse 10 tracks was Penn National and the line "horses you swore died 10 years ago still race there". And the casino did not help.....

casinos are all about profit. sponsoring a drum corps eats into that profit

And, from the casino's point of view, and little/no benefit. My mom is a VP of a fairly large bank, and I talked to her once about sponsoring a corps. She said that the band prefers to sponsor groups that have strong local ties, and have a 'high profile' locally: a corps that travels nationally does not lend itself to lots of publicity opportunities. If her bank sponsors a local school band, then there is weekly publicity during the football season, partnership with schools (which have local employees and parents), local events, etc. Her bank liked to either make a big splash with really high profile charities (such as the Komen cancer research organization), or really high profile sports teams (the local AAA baseball team, or the huge, national profile local University - she actually got to flip the coin at a home Ohio State game because of her bank's sponsorship). Drum corps is just not the big deal we'd like it to be, and from a marketing perspective to potential big-time donors, it's just not worth their investment (in their minds).

McDonald's (or something with similar national food appeal) needs to come out with a line of lean, nutritious stuff, and market it to fitness crazed people. Drum Corps would fit the marketing plan, and the chosen corps could serve said food for 2-3 meals per week, free of charge. The logo of the new line of products would be plastered on the chuck wagon (and check in the bank). Commercials would involve a few seconds of drum corps rehearsal and/or show, and maybe a scene of a football practice/game. The idea would be to show that "competitive marching band" is more "equal" than not to football when it comes to body/nutrition/competition.

I wouldn't even care if the commercial called it "marching band." I just want money, good food, and exposure going to the competitive marching activity, and I want a few drum corps to benefit.

First, I would like to say I'm sorry about the sad news. I have been a Glassmen fan for a long time. I am currently on staff with Pioneer and would like to extend an invite to all of you to come audition. I spoke to other staff members and we are proud to announce that we will offer credit for years marched with the Glassmen. For every year marched is a substantial discount off of the member dues for Pioneer. Pioneer shares a special connection with the Glassmen in that both corps were formed the same year.

I hope that we can give your members an opportunity to march this summer and a way to keep Glassmen active on the competitive field this summer.
