Blue Knights and the Evergreen Fire

Recommended Posts

The Blue Knights had moved to Evergreen High School for rehearsals in the mountains west of Denver. A forest fire in the area caused the evacuation of many residents as well as the Corps. Here are some quotes from BK's FB page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Blue-Knights-Drum-Bugle-Corps/22192163025?ref=stream&hc_location=stream

The Blue Knights staff is well aware of the current situation regarding the fire near Evergreen and are coordinating with local EMS officials to assure the safety of all currently at Evergreen High School. We will keep you posted as to the latest developments. We ask that we all keep cell phone traffic to a minimum.
UPDATE: Blue Knights loaded school buses now safely at Connifer High School.
UPDATE: The members and staff of the Blue Knights (and other evacuees) are safe at Confier High School with minimal luggage and equipment. The "Incident Commander" is allowing the Blue Knights' Food Truck to also transit to Confier High School at this time to provide meals while the drum corps beds down for the evening. We want to thank everyone for their support and well wishes. It is much appreciated!

So, the Corps is safe...and as is usual for any Corps, BK is helping those in need:

Jerry McLarty Are you providing meals for the corps only or all the evacuees? That would be awesome.

Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps Jerry, yes, the plan is to provide meals for the drum corps as well as those other evacuees and crews at Confier High School. Everyone is in good spirits considering the "change of plans" to today's schedule.

Here's an update on the Blue Knights website:

PRESS RELEASE: BLUE KNIGHTS EVACUATE REHEARSAL SITE IN COLORADO

6/3/2013

Conifer, Col. - The Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps was forced to evacuate Evergreen High School during their rehearsal Monday afternoon due to a forest fire in the local area. Members and staff quickly packed what they could carry onto buses at Evergreen High School and were safely transported to Conifer High School for an overnight stay until the on scene incident commander could give the "all clear" to return to Evergreen. Director Mark Arnold stated that he expects the drum corps to be cleared to return in the morning.

"The members and staff of the Blue Knights and other evacuees are safe at Confier High School," said Mark Arnold. "We want to thank everyone for their support and well wishes."

The incident commander also allowed the Blue Knights' Food Truck to transit to Confier High School to provide meals to the members, staff and other evacuees while the drum corps beds down for the evening. While the drum corps planned on opening its truck to the members, staff and other evacuees from the fire, The Angry Llama restaurant donated food and t-shirts to the members. The Blue Knights would like to thank the communities of Evergreen and Conifer for their gracious support of the drum corps during this challenging time.

Good news for the BK.

These news announcements from BK spark me to think of their show theme and the circle of Life (it's ups and downs but always ongoing.)

I recall previous seasons when they and Troopers had to make similar adjustments. This year also saw Surf and Cadets assisting during Hurricane Sandy. Plus who will forget the great work of the Madison Scouts helping fill sandbags and removing damaging flotsam during the Spring Training the year of the Baraboo (Wisconsin) floods.

Great people those drum corps folks, especially the members!
