garfield
What company did all all the design on the new uniform is their more than one. Please, re-read this sentence and tell me what the heck it means. :blink:/>
MikeN
Garfield - I'm actually with Dan in this. Collars - military jackets. Gauntlets? Military. Wings are stylized pauldrons, etc. I'd like to see a corps completely break from military-stylization and start from scratch. I thought Glassmen actually did a good job moving outside the box with the gold on the hip - moved the design closer to dance wear. Military styles still look good, and automatically convey an image of strength and aggression. But I think most current designs just rearrange the same frills on a standard template. -Mike

MikeN
Crown is stylized, but the shako is still a military-based design. Jacket is a step in the right direction, but still a "dress" uniform in an athletic-based activity. Every uniform still tries to evoke either military band maneuvers or night-at-the-symphony formality. We're still looking for a corps to break completely with tradition. BRASSO
I can't think of any corps that reminds me of military except Madison - which I'm fine with. I can, but they're not in DCI or DCA.
Fran Haring
I can, but they're not in DCI or DCA. The Commandant's Own. If Daniel tells them they need to redesign their uniform, they'll kick his ###.
KGTech
In spite of all of this, there is one glaring trend that I might suggest is going very much down the wrong path. A break from the past here is certainly needed, but this can't be the right direction. Uniforms... Frankly speaking, guys are just trying too hard and can't seem to completely break away from some sort of pseduo-military element of the past that makes it feel even more awkward. The end result is something that seems so out there to the uninitiated, to the point where it seems kind of amateurish. Simple reason why........ in the current design/judging system anything strange is greatly rewarded, anything more traditional is not. -kg
BRASSO
We're still looking for a corps to break completely with tradition. Mike There is nothing in the uniform of the Jersey Surf ( nor the Bridgemen,VK, Caballeros,Empire Statesmen, etc) and lots of other Drum Corps both in the past, as well as today that has a military cadet style motif, or that looks like something that we'd see in the military attire of some unit in the US or abroad. Most Drum Corps" broke with tradition" of the the standard military, Cadets style uniform, a long, long time ago. That bridge has been crossed by most Corps, so I'm really not sure what you mean when you state that you're " still looking for a Corps to break completely with tradition " regarding the uniforms they wear. Mike Sorry buddy - I'm looking for a corps to wow me with precision and powerful sound..... Not elf costumes and "body movement"
