jasgre2000
Even the kids in the lowest of drum corps levels gain life experience from their efforts. That, alone, makes their actions worthwhile. I suspect you are one of those who, when you go to a regional show like S.A., will only go to watch the top 5 or 6 corps. The rest are not worth your time to see them...and they are wasting their time performing. Am I right? No, you aren't right. I just wonder what the benefit is from doing something at a subpar to poor level. To me, one of the best experiences I had in marching band was working my tail off to be as good as I could be and then having that rewarded by having success in competition. I'm sure that there are plenty of benefits that come from just participating, but its not the same as put your whole heart into something and being rewarded for it in competition. I enjoy all the world class corps. My comments were based on my erroneous assumption that BDC members were high school age kids. They were pretty amazing, now that I realize how young they were. I apologize if I offended anyone.
c mor
BDC was designed for young kids with no experience. The Vanguard & BD orgs are mutually supportive, and they agree to let BDC go on third as lights are coming on, and more crowd is there as encouragement. There are kids that start in the C corps and age out of the A corps. This was the model set by the founding family of the BD - the Odellos. Keelan Tobia, two-time snare I&E champion grew up through all three corps. Don't know if you saw it or not, but the BD organization also put out a special needs guard this last winterguard season.
