truman
I think a more apt description of Hop is a guy who is super passionate about the activity, wears his emotions on his sleeve, and is prone to voicing said emotion via social media. For every "George complains about housing :w00t:/>/> or judging" type posts he makes, there are maybe double the amount that are either inspirational (an NPR article or stream, a poem, etc) or excited about a rehearsal block or performance from his kids. Just like all social media (including DCP), you take the good w/the bad. With Hop I would stipulate that he possibly double the positive posts as negative this season (EASILY: maybe more), where as DCP has a FAR more awful ratio of good/bad posts. I agree that Hop has done a lot of good for a lot of kids. The problem with media today, as all good CEOs know, is that ONE mistake is enough to start a **** storm that can wipe out years of hard work and success. Society loves to jump on stupidity, arrogance , and scandal. Glorification feeds the medias thirst for attention. Those who wear their emotions on their public sleeve are the most vulnerable, and should take precautions to protect their organizations' well being. Unfortunately, there is little room for honest human error, regardless of all the good one may do. All that is needed is a filter to insure all his public emotions are the ones that garner support for YEA. In that regard, he does have much to offer! normy diploome
In a world where if someone on one side of the mountain sneezes, the other side of the mountain says, "God bless you," the Cadets have visited the South and not only survived but thrived. People were forthcoming in Louisiana with housing and stadium facilities, tips to good mechanical shops, and better levels of humidity than previous tours. Ocean Springs became a motivator for the corps members to produce a wonderful performance and the judges and crowd agreed. DCI now sees a three way race toward Indy with a fourth corps not letting the top three rest. We the audience win! But then George does it again as he today posts about Dauphin Island, Alabama being a disappointment to his expectations of a proper beach experience. Please, please, for the sake of sanity and drum corps, someone please steal his computer, tie his fingers, and leave him bound in the GE box where he does his best work. The pressure moving into finals is just starting. It's going to be a great ride for those of us who enjoy great drum corps!!! seen-it-all
From George's facebook page: Tony D bringing me and the Ocean Springs director together . Actually, he and all have been very nice. My apology to all. Go Cadets — with Tony DiCarlo at Greyhound Stadium.

My apology to all. Go Cadets — with Tony DiCarlo at Greyhound Stadium. And once again, the real world proves that it is much more accepting, humble, forgiving, and just plan nicer than our little DCP world. Usually because folks realize that whatever their disagreements, their passion for this whole "band thing" overrides any differences or problems they may have....

And it's frankly one of the few things in the world that ever accomplishes that. Maybe DCP is trying to be too normal.
