truman
In the mood for Italian, found Guiseppes, a nice little place close to the school. Started with a crab soup featuring fresh vegetables from the local Savage farm. Magnifico! Salad, warm crusty italian bread, spaghetti and homeade meatball and sausage. As good as my all time faves! Great waitress, best of the trip, and cute too! Overall it wins for best meal of the tour so far. Looks like I have a must do spot for any future trips to Phrostburg. Now I need a nap! Going in search of some coffee before I head back to catch brass clinic with the DM camp. Skies look a little ominous but rain is holding off for now. truman
Brass clinic as the drum major camp sits in on the brass warm up before ensemble. Christian C is explaining everything they are doing to them. He made a joke and everyone was laughing as the corps went back into their arc. Dean showed the DM's what it's all about with a stern loud FALL IN! Battery, pit, and guard are working on the field. A very light rain as the skies are starting to clear. truman
It was a great rehearsal in Phrostburg tonight. I am definitely starting to feel some of the PR magic this show can offer. Just like it was last year the stadium press box on the home side is still under construction. The corps used a slightly lower box on the backside. The regular stadium lights were out of order, so they used four portable lower lights that left the corners of the field relatively dark. As with most clinics the corps was required to wear shirts, they all had on white FJM T-shirts. They also wore their helmets, and with the lighting, it made for a surreal effect. Several families, as well as local band students, along with the drum majors in the camp made for a nice crowd. The clouds had left the area, and it was cool and comfortable. truman
The Queen is starting to really be a presence in the middle pf the show. They have her in the middle of the action stirring things up. The characterization and staging improvements really make a difference. She also practices with no head, which i think is creepier than anything. Backround noise has been added to support the effect, and the kill has added spme color to draw attention. The storyline is becoming Phantom worthy! The brass is performing beautifully, alot of expressive dynamic, and some power in places. I still think they have another level of loud to add to a couple spots. There is a voice singing sounding thing in the start of Nimrod...not sure i liked it? The run through gave me a glimpse of a Regiment I had not seen live up to this point this year. I really was impressed! truman
At the end of the run, JT asked them about doing another one, and if the lights were causing problems. It was decided that a second one was in order. After a good water break they got a pep talk about how another run through was an opportunity to build positive experience for next week. They were asked to dig deep to push through the fatigue and the lights to find more within themselves. The result was remarkably a better performance than the first. The range of emotions that we are carried through has all the elements of a great fairy tale. I have felt this show draw me in, but now it just grabs you and pulls you in at a so much higher level. I happened to sit in front of a family with a little girl, mom, and grandma. The little girl would not stop talking about the evil queen. "When is she coming out mom?" "She is scary mom" "where did she go mom", "the girl is getting her sword", "yeah!! Take that you mean queen" It was so cool to watch all of them react to the show. A show that appeals to the kid in all of us! Thanks PR!!!
