hammondbrass
Al Chez is a featured trumpet soloist. I can't recognize the other. Patrick Hessions is the other, I believe. He was a lead player in Maynard's band.
Sideways
Cavies definitely win the most improved caption this year!! There were some scary performance issues earlier this summer.
kevingamin
Next on the field are the Bluecoats from Canton, Ohio. Their 2013 program is entitled "...to look for America" and consists of: Concerto for Wind Ensemble
kevingamin
And requisite "blooing" from the fans when the corps is announced.
kevingamin
The corps starts in parade formation as the parade is part of the Americana theme the corps is searching for during this show.
kevingamin
Paul Simon's America, played towards the right side of the field first, is very haunting. Then the corps does a killer spin turn and hits us full force with the music. The crowd approves.
kevingamin
The horns break into sections, each marching in a block towards a corner of the field and playing snippets of American marches. The red balloon has popped. Tenors now laying down a great feature.
kevingamin
Basses have their time to shine. The melody of this section of the show is very difficult and exposed. I especially like it when the mellos pick it up while the low brass plays backfield. Trumpets and mellos in two separate blocks playing melody/counterpoint. The drill under John Vanderkoff is SO MUCH better. Some great fast paced moments that are fun to watch develop from up here.
kevingamin
Baritone soloist midfield on a mic, lush sound coming from him. Guard now has white balloons to match the soloist's red balloon or has the picnic blankets. Baritones playing the melody while on the grandstands, joined by the rest of the horn line, tubas kneeling in front.
