First World Champion from the South!

Recommended Posts

It seems worth mentioning that Carolina Crown is the first and only World Champion from the South. All other champions have been from California, the midwest and the northeast.

I believe the only other southern corps to break into the top six are:

Spirit of Atlanta (4th place in 1979 and 1980)

Suncoast Sound (5th place in 1986)

Suncoast Sound was 6th in 1983 and 1985. Spirit of Atlanta was 6th in 1984 and 1986. Interesting flip-flops these 2 corps would do for 6 seasons (83 to 88).

Since so many kids who march hail from Florida and Texas, it could be argued the South has already won many times over. Just kidding!!! The South may not boast of a huge number of corps, but those the South has produced: Spirit, Suncoast Sound, Magic, Crown, etc., have given us great shows and memories. Congrats again, Crown.

The South will rise again!!!.......Alright, alright! Put the pitchforks down people! Kidding! Totally kidding!

I can't wait for the town of Fort Mill to put up the "DCI World Champions" highway sign! I'm definitely going to make the trip up there to take a picture of it!
