Here's an idea.....

There are several knowledgable individuals on DCP that can probably run the Glassmen. There are the money and leadership people who are on DCP, telling us "the right way to run a corp," that could probably take them to the top. I won't mention names but, there are a few.

What happened Keith to "Anyways, moving on....Thanks to my friends for your responses."? But, if you've returned, welcome back.

If Bingo isn't working for them anymore I would suggest hosting a yearly 5K run. If they have some active Alumni this might be a viable way to pay their debt off. I've been to a couple and they charge around $35 dollars per person and average from 500 people to 5,000 people. If we had enough people to run one of those we would be doing one for our corps.

Just and idea and it has less stigma than gambling.

Bingo isn't working for most groups right now, but it's not due as much to the stigma of gambling as to the number of casinos in operation.

Your idea of the run is excellent, especially appealing to alums. What most non-profits are discovering is that capital campaigns and building endowments is what works but it's a huge endeavor and probably a hard sell fro drum corps. However, bringing alums together fosters a fondness and from here great things can happen, however for the Glassmen something will have to happen fast. The longer they are out of competition, the harder it will be to reorganize.

It appears by posts on Facebook and their site that not much head way has been made on debt retirement. It is not a good idea to create another Teal Sound and get part way in to tour and not be able to funtion. If they go beyond this year they will have to move to Open if they do the DCI drum corps thing which pays virtually nothing so that sounds like an unrealistic idea. I am afraid we have seen the last of the Glassmen as a DCI corps

I am also hoping they are able to return. One thing I was kind of wondering though, since they are so close to Indy, would there be any possibility of just doing the last week of tour, in Open Class, just to keep the name and organization alive? Toledo is only about 240 miles from Indy, and if they did show up at finals week, with a souvie booth readily available with a donation box, I would think they could easily break even, and with a lot of support from fans, possibly come out ahead for a very short tour. I think once you pass 3 years, it makes it extremely difficult to reform an organization, such as a DCI corps. Most corps who have been successful after going inactive have a very difficult time. The only recent corps I can think of that was even active after a 3 year or more hiatus was Emerald Knights/Nite Express. I seem to recall they were active again in 2000 for one season, after being inactive for about 4 years. Troopers have been about the only corps that has gone inactive for a season, and come back and managed to get stronger than they were before they folded. Magic of Orlando was another corps that did come back strong after one season, but then struggled again several years later.

Another thing I am wondering, I recall last year someone talking at finals about a corps that had folded, planning on resuming at a future time. They had large debts they had been trying to pay off, and were running a bingo hall. I guess however, there were certain laws that said if they were running a bingo hall, they had to have some sort of group active within a 5 year period. So even though they were close to paying off their debts, they were forced to sell their facility since they were raising income for a non profit, but had no activity at all. I honestly am not sure if this is a city policy, a state policy, or a federal policy, and had never heard of anything like this happening in the past. Also wondering if this could happen to Glassmen if they don't get caught up in 4 years, or if this can happen to other corps like Southwind or other corps that have been inactive, but at times seem to appear like they could make a comeback.

Bingo laws are usually a State jurisdiction. Most have laws stating that an organization must be actively pursuing its 501c charter's "reason for being" in order to continue to run a bingo operation. In the case of a DCI drum corps, that usually means educating youth in music/

the arts. Without a performance group, it is kind of hard to prove that charter.
