Glassmen News?

well, some are dead on right. i know it ruins your snarky attempt to put people down, but law is law.

Literally zero people are "dead on right." You don't get to just use a Chapter 7'd organization's intellectual property without recourse. You don't get to buy their assets, if those assets are secured. In most cases, you can't even use the name of the BK'd entity for its goodwill.

For the record, the Glassmen, Inc. Articles of Incorporation mandate that after the bills are paid, anything leftover will go to a 501c3 that is located in Lucas County, Ohio. So, even if the unsecured assets are sold at auction by the court, and the secured assets are given over to the creditors, and there is something leftover (about a 0% chance of this happening), they go to a local IRS-certified charity before the dissolution of the corporation. This is just an example of the considerable mess of legal issues that surrounds this thing. This isn't even the start of it.

I appreciate the good faith of everyone who is offering solutions, but this kind of thing is EXACTLY why every single drum corps organization (every single one, without exception... ok, maybe Star) has had legal/governance problems. Guys just start doing things and before long, your corporation doesn't even exist because you didn't file the renewal papers for two years... not that this has ever happened... from 2009 to 2012... to one of the biggies... based in Indiana.

The best thing alumni can do is go talk to the guys who started The Arizona Academy, and if they really think it is colorable to get a corps onto the field, aim for 2017-2018 or so.

However…. that is not 'salvaging' the corps and getting it back on the right track, to use the words of gbass598; that is creating a whole new corporation under a whole new name with a whole new ID#.

I think Alumni want to see the corps and traditions continue one form or another and have something to latch onto. I don't think the original Blue Stars alumni look down upon the current Blue Stars as a different organizations even though they technically are.

The history of the corps has survived previous names and periods of inactivity. Maumee Sons, Glass City Optimists, Glassmen, Toledo people of Glass. Whatever you want to call it. You can still salvage the corps by finding a way to make sure an "Experience of a Lifetime" continues in one form or another in Toledo.

And I remember how many fans #####ed, ######, and moaned about their slow and steady methedology...PC's too. Haven't heard of much financial crud with those 2.

BTW...Indiana?? Don't you mean Illinois? There hasn't been a big corps in Indiana since Star.

Ummmm… isn’t being snarky a perquisite to become an attorney?

only if you're a defense attorney

Well, what Slingerland and Stu had posted is entirely in agreement with your comments, so as Jeff said, some people were in fact right.
