Incident of 2002 never heard that one please share Perfectly timed, during their very patriotic show (ref: 9/11) at a quiet and contemplative moment, a fire (or ambulance) siren was heard in the background outside the stadium. It couldn't have been better timed to blend in with the moment of the show. You can hear it clearly on the recordings. 84BDsop Posted August 17, 2013 Share Posted August 17, 2013 The Dreamscapes show made little sense to the average fan (and even myself) while utilizing controversial sounds that seemed to make even less sense. Narration seemed to drag the audience down by talking "at" them rather than letting interpret things in their own way. My problem with this complaint is that the only vocals were the opening Rod Serling bit and the drumspeak in the perc feature....the accusation of talking "at" the audience wasn't really there. 2007 in another matter entirely. I believe this was also the year the little microcosm of fan frustration occurred on finals weekend when Hopkins delayed the Cadets performance simply to repaint hash marks which he felt weren't up to snuff. Actually, give George his due on this one...the lines were supposed to have been done before Cadets hit the field 1 or 2 corps prior, if I remember right)...it was part of the contract with the stadium, and the RB staff dropped the ball. Like his leadership of Cadets or not, one canNOT deny George is a major reason for the corps' success...he took over in what, 1981? 2 years later he'd taken them from mid-level finishes to winning or top 3 finishes with a consistency surpassed only by Blue Devils (and with just about as consistent a staff) Where George has major failings is in how he communicates to people outside Cadets. Every year, it seems, he becomes the gift that keeps on giving whenever he opens his mouth or posts something in his blog (like this year....oh man). Give the man props for being willing to step into the fray where others fear to tread...he responded directly and on this board in 07 after I posted my objections to the narration. No other director would do so....hell, Gibbs rarely posted on the BD boards when they were up. He's not unwilling to speak his mind....it's just that rather often, his mind and common sense have only a nodding acquaintance. 3 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Actually, it was more than one emergency vehicle, and they were just sitting in the driveway of the station across, and in view, from the stadium. If for some reason they were just testing their lights and siren, wouldn't it seem unusual for them to test them all simultaneously? And my hat is not tin foil. As such, the opinion of these same corps is most important and needs to be valued. It is not wise, or appropriate, that each of the current world class corps have a vote that holds equal influence. Those who sell tickets, those who generate sales, those who are most marketable -need also to control a larger portion of the vote on business and adjudication issues." "Governance needs to be weighted to allow those who drive success to affect decisions." In other words, he and his 6 compatriots ARE the show, want more of the money that DCI generates from the tour for themselves, and want organizational and business decisions weighted towards their opinions because, as the "Premier Corps", they have demonstrated superior knowledge, foresight, and understanding of what it takes (and will take) to drive the drum corps activity successfully into the future. Um, not exactly It was the very end of the show and it was coordinated, even DCI was made aware, so they FILMED IT on finals night. The fire station was delighted to help out. Sirens etc went off when they made the backfield vignette of the firefighters in tribute to those lost or serving on 9/11.
