ShortAndFast
If I am recalling correctly, the Thursday night viewing availabilities at the theaters (pre-lims a/k/a quarter finals) was possible because Thursday is an off night at most cinemas while Friday and Saturday nights are not. Yes, there was a good discussion of this on DCP after the 2012 event. Basically, DCI Big Loud and Live is in the top 10 national ticket sellers for that day, because Thursday is a very weak night at movie theaters. So it's an excellent deal for the theater to bring in 75 or 100 DCI fans instead of 2 or 3 people watching a blockbuster that night. DCI would never get 600 theaters to show their event on a Friday or Saturday night when lots of people go to the movies.
cixelsyd
Not only that, but if you eliminate the Top 15 corps how many fans will come out? If the stands are fairly empty for Open Class and bottom 7 or 8 WC corps, why would the attendance increase with those bottom 7 corps being the top draw? Because then, there would be no one left to watch out in the lot.
