When will Eastern corps travel (Mid)West?

Recommended Posts

so just advertising the Bucs or cabs are coming instantly means more ##### in the seats? You think it's that easy?

I'm not saying it's that easy, no. But if every year in Minnesota DCA is solely represented by MBI, Kilties and Govies then that's all the area will ever know. It's not going to be a quick win no matter which way you look at it. But after a few years of new groups being introduced to the area, fan bases might develop for these other corps and people might be willing to travel to finals from outside of the Northeast because now they understand and enjoy the product of not just their local corps, but other corps that will be in attendance. It's the show sponsors job to advertise for their show and the corps in attendance, not to advertise for DCA in general or the corps elsewhere.

The best analogy I can think of is a circus. The circus proper is DCA. If MBI is the dancing horses, Govies are the acrobats and Kitlies are the bears on bicycles, then for the Midwest folks, that's all they ever see. So to them, THAT is the circus. They don't realize that there are also lion tamers and clowns and fire breathers. You can tell someone they should go to Rochester and see the circus, but in their mind they've already seen it because they've never experienced a lion tamer or a fire breather.

Although I personally believe that, if Renegades, MBI, Sun Devils, Corpsvets and others can make at least one trip to the Northeast, then northeast corps could travel outside their area too BUT......If these corps did do that then maybe financially, they would have problems later down the road. I would hate to lose any more corps because of lack of money.

I was stating a hypothetical. I do know those are Drum Corps towns that possibly could draw a good amount of people.

I'll have to make the trip to finals get a headcount someday. I would think they would need more than 3K people in the stands to be able to pay all the expenses of Hosting a finals show. All the HighSchool stadiums in my area seat around 5K people. The local DCI show pulls in 3K to 5K people and is just breaking even but that's a different animal.

you're going to need a venue that if it's a HS stadium, it's got to be ###### good. not just the amount of seats but amenities too.

And let's be honest here....the ability to sell beer. it is a money maker for the venue...and I don't know any high school stadiums that sell that

true....but the lion tamer needs to be sure that it is ther right thing for them to do to join that circus. And when you can do a show within 4 hours, and lose less money doing that than driving 20 hours, then...well...I mean come on.

I have said it before, I'll say it again. Grow the regions. The South has been slowly but surely doing that.

I have done that long ### drive to have more people on the field than in the stands. It wasn't a good thing....for anyone.

What was the total ticket sales for DCA at the last 5 DCA Champoinships ,I know in Rochester they seemed to have larger crowds at preliums than finals .Im sure the 50th. at Rochester will be smaller crowds now that there's no longer any corps from upstate. If all the non northeastern corps decided to boycot DCA for one year what would you have? The time is coming to move DCA Championships outside the northeast to grow the all-age corps .

Beer? I've never been to a Drum Corps Show were beer was sold. All the shows I've been to were DCI except the one DCA show in Denton and I'm pretty sure no beer was there as it was a high School Stadium. It never occurred to me to even consider Beer as a factor in Drum & Bugle Corps. The only time I considered beer was having corps members sell beer at the Royals and Chiefs games as a fundraiser for our Corps.

OK I agree with only going to shows within a reasonable travel radius, I agree with growing the regions and I don't like going to shows that are sparsely attended.

So everyone that is not within 4 hours of Finals should not go because there is a chance they could go broke. Since it's true for an Eastern Corps it is certainly true for a corps outside the East Coast.

I think we have reached the end of this thread and possibly the internet.
