Tim K
As one who was taught by several Jesuit professors, was not in fact the corps name Sancians taken from the name of the island where SFX died? At least that is the story in S. Weymouth to this day. I know Xavier Academy in Manhattan, NYC has its own parade drum and bugle corps and drill team. They also do football and soccer games with a limited drill, old school style. I'm not sure why you got a negative vote since the older translation of Shangchuan is Sancian and that is where the good saint died. It's an easy check on the internet. I feel sorry for them.
ChuckH
As one who was taught by several Jesuit professors, was not in fact the corps name Sancians taken from the name of the island where SFX died? At least that is the story in S. Weymouth to this day. That actually answers a question. (Not that I've been dwelling too much.) Back in '86 after we (BK) had a bad quarter-finals collapse, lost some points/places, missed out on semi-finals, and finished only about half a point ahead of someone we hadn't been in direct competition with, I remembered hearing someone say "You mean we almost got beat by the SANCTIONS, too?" Upon hearing that, my immediate thought was, "But that's not how their name is spelled." But I said nothing. Now I know what a Sancian is. A hole in my knowledge has been filled. Also, back then, I may have assumed for a little while that they were from Quebec. I figured that one out quicker.
