Runitagain
Just listening to some music tonight got me thinking about a hypothetical question. Who would you design a show around when it comes to a modern main stream group. I for one would choose O.A.R. very talented group with a lot of great songs that tell some good stories. Who would you choose?
ML23
It's been almost done to death already, but Radiohead's music translates very well to the activity.
actucker
Its been done, but Muse is fantastic, and there is enough different stuff going on in their music to put together a pretty great list of source material.
Hawkeye
Some breaking benjamin or something would be neat to see. Don't know how you'd get it to work. Completely unrelated to the purpose of this post, but one thing I've really wanted to see is a modern star wars show. I know scouts and north star both had content in 78. Some of that music is epic, would be really cool in a high powered drum corps setting. You'd have to execute it in the right way though. That and it would probably be a pain to get licensing rights and stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GW-E0dOfdoc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bzWSJG93P8 BD even did some if you know where to dig it up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeGBnpwPfrA Two steps from hell or something would be fun :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRLdhFVzqt4 I can gauruntee that won't happen though. Hardly a "modern band" but if you're into neo-orchestral music. Edited October 12, 2013 by Hawkeye

If you like Star Wars music, you may want to check out Star'87 or Freelancers '88 ( They got on John Williams kick for a couple of years). Not quite modern, but more so than the 70s stuff. fsubone
More Imogen Heap would translate well, or Sara Bareilles. Would love to see Imogen's Wait It Out on the field, could work as a fantastic pre-show/opener.
Barifonium
I'd have to agree with Night Wish, but also Owl City or One Republic and... (don't kill me) Cascada (their older stuff) has some good moments. I feel like a creative percussion genius could really make Techno/Trance into something awesome in Drum Corps without making it sound forced, cheesy, etc. Edited October 16, 2013 by Barifonium
flammaster
Last thing I want to see is drum corps being dumbed down and play something "main stream"! New and interesting is how it has been going and I think drum corps is on the right track. If you don't like it watch 'Merkin Idle.

It can easily be at the same level as the shows around them, while still using popular music people might actually recognize. Bluecoats have done a pretty great job with that lately, as have a few other Top 12 corps like Crown, Madison, Boston, amongst others.
