N.E. Brigand
I think you just got it confused with Faure's "Pavane". The Faure was the one that was part of their program. I didn't! I mentioned Faure in my original post, and noted that I could hear Faure's "Pavane" in the preshow. I asked about the Ravel "Pavane" because of this list. (One has to look to the Internet Archive now for that because of the update that obviously happened in response to this thread.) I would love to hear another corps try the Ravel, that's for sure. As I said above, the marching band I saw perform it (Dublin Jerome H.S. from greater Columbus) did very well, I thought, although I wish they'd played it a little bit slower. (Which is also how I feel about every corps performance of Elgar's "Nimrod" I've seen.)
general_tsos_chicken2
I remember seeing a band at BOA play it (pavane for a dead princess) in a joan of arc show, and they set a chick on fire during it. was pretty awesome
N.E. Brigand
Thanks for pointing me toward "Joan: Visionary, Warrior, Martyr, Saint" performed by the Jenison (MI) high school marching band in 2012. The immolation is a very nice effect indeed! Plus their "Pavane" is at about the right tempo--but rather brief. And there's just too much synth and amplification throughout the show for my tastes. Still, I'm quite glad to have seen it.
Gary Matczak
(FYI, those with DCA Fan Network subscriptions can hear a corps play this piece: the Yokohama Inspires senior corps took fifth place at DCA Finals in 2002 with a program that included Ravel's mournful ditty.) Inspires playing this piece was the first I had ever heard a corps (let alone heard of a corps) do it,............It was strunningly beautiful,................I've listened to it 100's of times,...................their take on Sambandrea Swing was real cool too,...........
