MetalTones2012
The Watchmen drum corps will be competing as a Class A corps this summer after touring as a exhibition corps for 2013. A new drum corps from Bakersfield CA named The Golden Empire will be competing in Class A this summer. Incognito from CA are back to compete after being inactive for a couple years. The Spirit of Newark will be making a come back after not competing in 2013. This is the first time in years that this many corps will be either making a come back or competing for the first time. Hopefully, 2013 and this year will signal a plus for the re-growth of the dwindling Class A division. You mean Open Class, right? Or are they in DCA? eric24
Open class. Sorry about that.
N.E. Brigand
Speaking of Tampa Bay Thunder: what's up with their website? Links have been removed for the touring schedule and camp announcement I mentioned above, as well as to their show announcement that had been posted in December. In fact, the only two items at their "news" link are announcements pertaining to their SoundSport (Tropical Brass Theater) and WGI (Attack Percussion) teams. A few days ago, someone posted "No more thunder?" on TBT's Facebook page. Is that just trolling, or is something going on?
darfin
A few days ago, someone posted "No more thunder?" on TBT's Facebook page. Is that just trolling, or is something going on? Folded. Not enough brass showed up to camp.
N.E. Brigand
Ah, too bad. Maybe they should have stuck with the DCA format? Is there any chance they'll try to come back next year? And is there official confirmation of this news anywhere? There's nothing about it on either their website or Facebook page.
ewubrassman1
Eruption Drum and Bugle Corps from Bonney Lake, WA is currently in the midst of the DCI application process! We're mentioned in this article: http://www.dci.org/news/view.cfm?news_id=6d00148c-fd0f-4cb5-9164-6f33f9996d09 We're also still taking applications for (almost) all sections, especially trumpet, tuba, and keyboards. N.E. Brigand
Good luck to you, Eruption! And thanks for linking to that article. Unlike yourselves, as well as Coastal Surge, Golden Empire, and Guardians I see that Watchmen are not one of the four corps "invited to attend" the Open Class directors' meeting. Nor are two other corps that have been mentioned as returning to activity in 2014: Incognito or Spirit of Newark/New Jersey.
Soprano Martin
Columbus Saints is a new corps in Sound Sport this season, we're off to a fantastic start! Numbers are great and the lines are strong. We do have a few spots left open, looking mainly for trumpets and bass drums! www.columbussaints.org facebook.com/columbussaints
N.E. Brigand
Speaking of the Watchmen, last year after they performed in exhibition at Walnut, billing themselves as a "brass and percussion ensemble", and a question was asked on these forums: are they a drum corps? I see that they now call themselves a drum and bugle corps in this Youtube recruitment video, even though the video shows their 2013 performance, where they still used trombones. And despite their not being mentioned in DCI's article referencing potential Open Class corps this year, they had auditions the past two weekends and more tomorrow and have announced their plans to submit to DCI evaluation for competition this year. (For some reason, I found it difficult to find Watchmen via Google. Here is their website and here is their Facebook page.)
