DCP NewsFeed
2013 was an incredible year for the Genesis program. As a performing unit we were able to accomplish many goals and establish our Drum Corps as a premier destination for students looking to take their skills to the next level. In addition we saw tremendous growth in both membership and what we are able to [...] ... N.E. Brigand
Will this four-hour move north from Edinburg to Austin cut into the potential membership of the budding Guardians corps, who had announced their plans to move from Soundsport in Open Class this year, but whose home of Seguin is less than an hour south of Austin? Or will Guardians, whose website indicates a planned nine-show regional tour for 2014, function in some ways as a feeder or stepping-stone for Genesis, who are likely to do twice as many shows? (If they again make it to World Class semifinals.)
MikeN
I don't see much overlap. Seguin is much more "outside of San Antonio" than "close to Austin" as far as urban centers go. Mike

rayfallon
Austin is one of the great live music spots in the US, and UT has an incredible wealth of talented students, not only musically, but in every discipline. Austin should be paradise for a drum corps. Hope it goes well. Watch out for the bats and keep (most of) the kids off 6th Street.

If the Guardians provide as good, if not better, of an atmosphere for the youth as Genesis there will be nothing to worry about; and both the Guardians, as well as Genesis, will prosper. MetalTones2012
Keep in mind that this is Texas, the place where most top World Class corps hold satellite camps to bring up their talent levels. If multiple DCI and DCA corps can function in the New York/Philly areas with few membership problems (the entire state of New Jersey takes only three hours to cross north to south), then three DCI corps at extremely different levels of competitiveness can function together in the Texas Triangle. N.E. Brigand
Thanks, ray and MT, for your insights into the Texas talent pool. I should perhaps note that in the predictions thread in the World Class forum, I picked Genesis to win the Open Class title. We'll see. Edited January 29, 2014 by N.E.
