DCI membership votes overwhelmingly to allow ALL brass instruments in

Recommended Posts

Beginning this year, Trombones, French horns and other brass instruments may now be used without any penalty or hesitation.

I am definitely not excited about this move. I really hope most corps don't choose to use them. But it will probably end up like amps, vocalization, and electronics, where everyone feels the need to use them to keep up with the other corps.

The membership was very supportive, citing the potential growth in interest by students in drum corps as a major driver.

I am going to put myself in the disappointed camp. Musically it's unnecessary. Visually it will be a miss. My guess is we won't see to many this coming year. Horns have been ordered, rosters all but selected, and shows have been arranged and designed. Next year get ready for "76 Trombones" literally. I don't buy the more active participation to a larger pool argument either. Audition camps provide more than enough talent to fill spots.

Once again, Hopkins and his progressive changes through the years have led to this becoming a reality. Say goodbye to corps folks! If my corps uses trombones or french horns ever I will cry. I am ashamed at the board of directors and leadership in DCI to let this happen.
