MikeD
I was there yesterday - beautiful day for a competition. What school were you with? West Windsor-Plainsboro South...the only II Open band...we did music from "Scheherazade" as our show. I am the percussion arranger.

Jeff Ream
JJJeff... re: "I read that Hopkins GE tape was pretty unhelpful for some. Did anyone see this show and was it worthwhile. Did having DCI staff make this show a better experience?" He openly tweeted that he had had only two hours worth of sleep due to travel disruptions. Under those conditions I would have presumed a substitute judge would have been in the ready. Maybe even Hopkins is human? funny but true...i'll leave the names out.. several years ago for TOB's championships in Scranton, a judge who taught a band that performed Saturday and won, celebrated well into the morning. he got back to the hotel and told the desk clerk to call his room at 7. The clerk said "ok your phone will be ringing when you get there..." one shower and a lot of coffee later, he judged 26 bands and looked no worse for wear
jjeffeory
JJJeff... re: Xandandl, I'm a little surprised you'd be making excuses for him. As they say, the show must go on! You are misreading my meaning entirely. If it were excellence for the bands that was stated for the goal, I would have begged off once arriving knowing that I would not be capable, not matter how well intentioned, to fulfill the challenge. But the particular judge who assumed the role is not anyone who ever honestly admits his own limitations. Others suffer because of it from my personal scars and experience. Yes, he was a last minute switch with a band judge who ultimately went to metro Dallas in his stead. Seems the original judge was the music arranger for two of the bands in the Houston show. This manifests another weakness and lack of due diligence by the MiM administration, don't you say? p.s. I hear Seven Lakes high was the eventual winner. I'm here to learn and take in opinions. Thanks for the clarification. Time to Youtube Seven Lakes.... Actually don't see that school listed on the Schedule.... xandandl
Seven Lakes (one of the schools on the schedule was a no-show, so don't trust the pre-printed schedule.)
Eleran
Were you with a band? No, my son's school had the weekend off, so he and were just there to watch (and recruit for Brunswick Battalion). Liked WWP's show! Hope some of their kids might consider joining us ... [hint, hint]
MikeD
No, my son's school had the weekend off, so he and were just there to watch (and recruit for Brunswick Battalion). Liked WWP's show! Hope some of their kids might consider joining us ... [hint, hint] It was too windy to use the gorgeous prop our parents built. They are now "wind proofing" it for future shows.during the drum solo the winds line up behind the doors and come through. Then our trumpet trio at the start of the next tune stands in the doorways to start the finale.
