Generally you try to always have a least 2 people playing a part, sans different harmonies/octaves. Makes sense. I know Top 6 percussion books in the late 90's/early 00's (before amplification) might've played out the way I said above, maybe minus a dedicated xlo & metallics player (or a combined xylo/glock player).
