David Hobart Posted May 3, 2014 Share Posted May 3, 2014 Effective April 21st 2014, the Sunrisers are pleased to announce that long term member, Larry Visconti, has accepted the position as the new Corps Director. Larry is no stranger to the Sunrisers having marched non-stop from 1972, playing Snare, Tympani, Bass Drum and soprano. Larry performed with the corps at each of their six DCA World Championship titles. He has held various management roles as Vice President, Percussion Business Manager, Management Consultant, and served as president of the Sunrisers Board of Directors. He has played a major role in the Sun drumline that won 6 drum titles, including 3 years undefeated. He was named to the Sunrisers Hall of Fame in 2001. As the corps continues to build on their recent successes, Larry is in the ideal position to take them to the next level and establish their place of prominence for the next 60 years. Kevin Hassan, has stepped down as director to spend some much deserved time with family. Those of you who have been around DCA know that it was Kevin's desire to help bring the corps back to prominence in open class competition. Please join us in thanking Kevin for his tireless devotion to Sun and wish him the very best. The Long Island Sunrisers Drum & Bugle Corps is an all-age field-competitive Corps participating in Drum Corps Associates. Founded in 1954, the Sunrisers have a proud history of innovation and excellence, resulting in the garnering of Seven Drum Corps Associates circuit championship titles, (1977-1978, 1982-1983, 1987-1988, and 2007 Class A) an American Legion Championship (1968) and dozens of appearances at DCA finals since 1966. 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
rayfallon Posted May 3, 2014 Share Posted May 3, 2014 I've known Larry since the early 60s in Long Island drum corps. He's a great guy, a great drummer, a flat out winner. Maybe most important, he knows how great teams work. He's smart, motivated, a great choice for any organization - but his heart belongs to this one. I think that's the best move Sun has made in a long time. Congratulations Sunrisers. Whether this gives you instant, short-term success, or well built from the ground up long term success, Larry will be successful, or more accurately, Larry will empower and power Sun and the Sunriser members to success.
