hostrauser
The Forward Dynamics music organization from Oregon, Wisconsin, is pleased to announce the DCP-I Season XXII program for their Class A corps... Xothyme!PROGRAM: "Supervillain" -- Metropolis Symphony by Michael Daugherty -- New Century Dawn by David Gillingham-- Bird and Bela in B Flat by Don Sebesky Let's look at things from another perspective. Take Lex Luthor, for example. It could be argued that Lex is a humanist and feels this creature calling itself “Super-Man” from the distant planet of Krypton is infecting the people of Metropolis with his alien platitudes. Perhaps "Super-Man" is merely a scout. Perhaps "Super-Man" ingratiating himself into human society is merely the first step in an invasion. Maybe Lex Luthor is the true hero: the only voice of discord against the alien threat. Luthor tries to take over the world not out of a lust for power, but to save it from just rolling over and surrendering when the invasion finally comes. If the story were to be written from Luthor’s perspective (which I’m sure it has by now at one point or another) we also might come to see the alien who calls himself “Super-Man” as the villain. Just playing devil's advocate. Haha! But seriously, Lex Luthor is a jerk. So is The Joker, Darth Vader, General Zod, and Ernst Stavro Blofeld. But even jerks need their day in the sun. Supervillainry is good for the economy, folks. The Death Star, Blofeld's Volcano Fortress... do you realize how many people it takes to build stuff like that? Bad guys are JOB CREATORS, ladies and gentlemen. How frustrating it must be to spend years building some kick-butt hidden fortress only to have it destroyed by some Johnny Do-Gooder in a matter of minutes. I mean, really, you couldn't just thwart my plans, you had to break everything, too? No more, Mr. Clark Can't! There are no heroes in this show, no overly muscled he-man with superpowers and/or machine guns to appear to mess everything up. This is the bad guys' moment in the sun, a tribute to the sheer joy and fun of being evil. Because good... is dumb.
