BigW
When corps ,and i'll use Reading for now since they have the best track record over the last 10 years .Do they still get bus money in advance from a show . I know we Sunrisers did back in 82,and 83 .Back then there was money for winning ,and I also asked for moneys to cover the buses. When a show wanted you in there show you worked out the deal for the contract .Do corps still do that ????? Good question, one I do not know. It was considered more than fuel money, though. Some corps- the 'big' names- did command extra for what amounted for an appearance fee that was set between the show organizers and the corps. Corps could do that back then and have leverage when they could say, "We have a contest in Jersey/New York metro area or a parade that day where we can make x profit instead of coming to your contest, can or will you cut a deal?"... I can tell you that issue in large part caused the death of the Lewistown Show, which was sponsored by the Lions Club. The chairman was a rather.... interesting character to say the least, and wanted the Cabs very badly 1980 for the contest (The guy was a real fan, could you blame the guy!?), and when the other Lions found out he'd paid what they viewed as a substantial bonus to them and did it without consulting anyone, all heck broke loose and the show folded. Need to talk to Dad about that guy again. His responses are also... interesting!
