Better than Trittico, and better than 2000. I am extremely proud to be represented by these guys. The part about climbing the tree...until a gust of wind blows me down, comes from the lyrics of the closer song, "To Build A Home". Wow what a show and performance! Great job this year!Question- does anyone know where the poem came from they use during their show or was it written just for the show? So I've been a little hesitant to talk about the effect BK has had on me this Summer because for the most part, I didn't understand it until recently. All Summer this show has been pulling at my heartstrings and many others I'm sure, but these last 3 weeks have been especially momentous. Before we start, last year my mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and of course it ripped my heart out. Every bit of news was mildly encouraging, but as these things go, cancer is an enduring struggle. Well recently she got the green light. After months of chemo and radiation, she fought, and may have also beat it. Now my mother has never been as avid a fan of drum corps as myself, but she holds her own. Recently we went to the Mustang, OK show and before BK entered the field I remarked how they had a serious tear-jerker of a show. She shrugged it off like I'd have assumed anyone would and afterwards seemed very appreciative of their performance. Enter the theater performance last night...I leaned over with a callous remark of "are you crying yet?" to only notice she was in full-out tears. Afterwards in the parking lot she went on to say how beautiful the narration worked with the show and how the idea that stuck in her head the most was "that one second, isn't a second at all" To her, that one second is your lifetime in relation to eternity and to the afterlife. Now, not to get all spiritual here, but I was shocked to realize she had witnessed a profound moment that helped her reflect on her past year of hell. And nonetheless in a drum corps show!!! I've heard of the emotion talked about in BK's rehearsals and part of me felt like "yeah ok" but everyone embodies that same idea. And then I heard her feelings and felt like I had missed the whole idea of what BK is going for, even after loving what I had seen in Mustang and San Antonio. After rewatching tonight, it makes so much sense. I think my favorite moment in BK's show is the narration "...and I can't feel anything but gratitude for every single moment...you have no idea what I'm talking about I'm sure, but you will someday" Now I know some have called this pretentious, but I would whole-heartedly disagree. To me it isn't a "hey we know and you don't" but "hey none of us know, but we all will someday." Not to be corny but I have complete gratitude for what BK tried and in my humble opinion succeeded in this amazing drum corps season. These guys have my favorite show this year and I hope they can push through like the Bluecoats and give the top 7 a tough time in the coming years! Thought you were WAY better than Phantom tonight, but we all saw the crazy judging that went on, so not a surprise. As someone who's worked behind the scenes for Mark, Ken and my dot friends it's really beautiful to think of all the wonderful things that this show has done and will do. The future is never brighter, recruiting will be fun and the camps will be packed. 2015 is gonna be awesome because BK YOU LEFT A PROFOUND MARK ON DRUM CORPS!!! Way to go! My wife, a month before I saw BK in Houston, had her last radiation treatment after four chemo treatments. I found the lump last December, and within a few days she was in the first of two surgeries. Been a very long year so far. But, she is in complete remission. I was there with my beautiful son, having driven from Alabama to Houston to make some job connections for him, and it was the first show we'd seen together since I stood on the turf at Lucas Oil and wrapped my arms around him after he (and several others) :) had just won the world championship. When Thomas first marched DCI for Spirit, I bought him the book about a summer's tour by BK. So, needless to say I dissolved when the started flipping the graphics over- an incredibly moving show. Those kids should know that I've been watching DCI for 40 years and was never moved as much. Thanks for, as the kids say, being real. Me too.
