jjeffeory
Hmmm, bingo! Ah, I thought she just hated one corps; good to know they're in good company when it comes to the torch.
cfirwin3
That's not how this works! That's not how any of this works! Competitive spreads are called by individual judges. The total score is just math. A tenth or two in a subcaption by an individual judge IS CLOSE and in that individual's opinion, is competitive. It IS how it works. When you factor all of those tenths, you come out to about a 2 point maximum spread (if one corps is consistent in most captions over another). If the final score is within .5.... then it's pretty darn close, and likely could be anybody's game on any night. My point is that once you get outside of 2 points in total score, then you will find that the captions would indicate (as you point out) that they are more than several tenths apart. The GE scores are the ones that matter most. We are saying the same thing... I just generalized the total score to a 2 point spread.
bandman28
Oh sure. But I'm just considering time. Cadets had a nice long preseason camp in Johnstown (as usual)... which is where I went to school actually... wish they were around there when I was a kid... would have been neat. The Cadets (like BD) almost always comes out pretty clean (more than others) at the start of the season. I just don't see that any of the corps in the lineup tonight would be nearly as polished in only the end of the 1st week of shows. Maybe in 3 more weeks?... But the Cadets are going to have most of the captions in the bag in both comp. and perf. with more material written and more quality time to have rehearsed it. Devils will be the same way. They always are. Accually, Cadets historicly used to come out a muddled hot mess visually and then was absoulutely wonderful by August.
cfirwin3
Amazing to me how we can define a show as non-competitive because there is a 2 point spread 2 scores into the season with a short panel at a small show. Look... competitiveness is night by night. I am not saying that it won't change and my Bluecoats are doomed. I am saying that the judges are indicating that there was not much of a competition tonight (by their view). So, yes, we can make these assumptions. That is what the score shows. This is where these shows are at, in comparison at this moment in time. This is what show scores tell us.
BRASSO
2 things: Through the years Deb Torchia has consistently given BAC higher scores then other judges have awarded. It also been an ongoing joke that Torchia awards the Cavaliers lower scores. For those who are saying BAC closed the gap tonight by over 2 points on the Cavies must remember this was only partial panel. Well, it looks like there's nothing to see here then.. once Debbie Torchia isn't around to push BAC, and once the full panels are back in,then Cavs should be back up to 4 + point cushion that the Cavs had over BAC when Debbie wasn't such a Downer for the Cavs. Edited June 26, 2014 by BRASSO

Those aren't the Cadets that I have watched rehearse over the years. I've always known them to be absolutely wonderful all the time... relatively speaking
geluf
Comparison for Bloo is better than it was in Akron... but the judges just don't seem too impressed with the composition and content. I would feel better if those scores were through the roof but the execution was down. Also noticed that there must be no brass or percussion judges tonight. Glad to see everybody diggin' the concept... just wish we could see a sparkle of that same enthusiasm in the judges. The 2 point total spread indicates that it isn't competitive. Generally anything outside of 2 points is not... anything within 2 is possible... and scores within .5 are actually competitive. Would love to hear reviews for all the corps from anyone that was there! I just don't think you can say that yet because the system is new. And, even if GE doesn't end up being a caption they win...it isn't a requirement to win it all. You make up the slack in the other captions. cfirwin3
Ah...early season drum corps. Look out! The sky is falling! oh please... I'm just doing what the corps staff members are doing... outloud... on DCP... oh shoot! What was I thinking! The scores have a lot to say. I just like to hear them talk. Alright... I'm out. Last day of school in New York State tomorrow! Gotta get some sleep... one more day to teach!
