Fran Haring
Some book in the early 1990s named "MacArthur Park" as one of the ten worst songs of the rock and roll era True. The other nine were done by REO Speedwagon.
ApathyJones
They're not struggling this year, I think that's a bit too far the other direction. They had an off night. We could hear it and the judges could too. No biggie. I meant their corps as a whole, not just the brass. 1st to what is looking like 5th is a pretty big drop. I would call that struggling, relative to last year.

perc2100
It just hasn't been an issue. Virtually every conceivable genre and style that is idiomatic to drumcorps has won a brass caption at one time or another. I think your point is missing the forest from the trees. Exactly. And to be kinda blunt, what a judge might say to a Div. 2 staff in critique (a non-medalist Div. 2 at that) is likely WAY different from what thy would say to a Top 5 WC staff. Heck, I think what they would say to a corps gunning for Top 3/Champion caliber corps would be different from a non-finalist WC. While the sheets might not be significantly different (or not at all, in the case of a WC corps), I think the philosophy and mindset is significantly different
bluesman
Was it the stadium or just a random event? I have a 52 year old brain, but I am almost positive it was this stadium. DCI East 1982 if memory serves.

I would call that struggling, relative to last year. I'd look at position and scoring. Anyone who will likely score over 95 at finals isn't really struggling. It's not as good of a year for them compared to the last couple of years, but not a disaster. If their scores drop below 90 next year, then there's a struggle.

Been in those too :)
KVG_DC
Wow the scores. I suspect the order between 2-5/6 may come down to who will be judging and who happens to have the cleanest run. Lots of drama to watch this year.
