Anyone else feel bad for the Cadet's members?

Recommended Posts

This is a strange topic. Bluecoats were the fan favorite from day one, ESPECIALLY with the younger crowd it seems. People want the fan favorite to do well, and in this case, they REALLY wanted Coats to beat Cadets. They probably knew Blue Devils were out of reach (at least after first bit of the season)...they wanted it, were denied it all summer -- they lost to The Cadete EVERY SINGLE TIME, until...the one time that matters. And they went berserk over it. Why shouldn't they?

It happened of course in 2008 Regiment-BD. Last year Crown-BD. Somewhat in 2011 Cadets-BD. Man, the crowd really likes it when BD loses lol. But seriously, this is just how it is.

It happened in the Cadets' favor in 1983, probably the biggest audience explosion of that nature in DCI history. Heck, they started at the end of Cadets' finals performance with the "East! East! East!" chant.

Yea I think the bluecoats fanboying and fangirling got a little over the top when cadets were announced in 3rd. I mean seriously, doing the bloo cheer when cadets score was announced just cause you passed a corps for a silver medal? If you have to do it, save it for that gold medal.

it is important to realize that the announcement of the Cadets in 3rd was not ONLY the announcement of the Cadets in 3rd. It was ALSO the announcement of Bluecoats in 2nd. Obviously "Bluecoats" were never mentioned, but it is still the announcement of their position.

Just like in 2008, when BD was announced in 2nd. That same announcement also announced Phantom in 1st.

it is this: did the kids learn and grow as individuals? form lasting bonds with others? create good habits that will help them down the road in life? have fun? were they well trained and well cared for?

If that's what matters then they could save a bundle and dispense with the auditioning, the weekend camps, the national tour, the top dollar design and instructional staff, the pricey equipment, the comical screaming at practices, etc. Just start a summer camp and charge 1/6 the price.

The shows and the competition are what draw us in, they're what gets us to march, they're what keeps us coming back as fans. They are what matters.

They did have a show and they did compete.

I "just didn't like it"? Can you think of any corps design package that was widely ridiculed more than this year's flag wavin' narration-and-tarpfest?

I am certain that - to a person - doing "just fine" is far from well enough for the 150 ultra talented Cadets members this year.

The kids may have won a bronze medal, but the staff lost at least a silver medal, possibly gold (no way BD has such a high score if the Cadets actually had a show package that could compete.) And everyone in the corps and 99% of the people in the audience know it too.

So, BD really isn't as good as they are, they're only that good because Cadets are that bad?

What kind of twisted, illogical rationalization is this?

Good God.

The eruption in the stands at the announcement was second-loudest only to '13 that I've ever heard in, now, 28 finals events.

The difference this time is that it's a corps cheer that gets yelled. Are there any other corps with a corps cheer? In '08, what Phantom cheer distinguished the raucous applause when BD was announced in second? What separated the cheers for BD from the cheers for PR in that instant?

This time it was easily distinguishable from the cheers for Cadets, but it's no different from any other medal announcements.

Bloo has a corps cheer. There's no mistaking who the crowd is cheering for when they scream it.

Pretty sure those weren't just Bluecoat fans "fanboying" and "fangirling". It was the ENTIRE audience, minus a few who, for whatever reason weren't fans of the Bluecoats show, and of course some Cadets fans, though I'm sure even some Cadet fans were happy for the Bluecoats. Trust me, Bluecoat fans alone couldn't have made that kind of noise. Keep in mind, Bluecoats have NEVER placed as high as 2nd. The excitement was too much to contain and was not meant to disrespect the Cadets in any way. If the Cadets can leave the field immediately "out of respect" for other corps, leaving some with an impression of anything but respect, surely you can forgive elated fans who, out of "respect" for the Bluecoats went a little crazy. In your heart of hearts, you do know that there was no disrespect intended. Right?
