Madison Scouts 2014 Hornline Exercises

Recommended Posts

I actually don't know, but from watching it it seems like it's just different chords/notes memorized before-hand. First part: the first hand tells them which progression they are playing, the other shows which chord they are on of that progression. From there the open 3 fingers indicate a simple major Bb, while the overturned 3 fingers indicate a major Ab (one whole step down). Possibly just to allow tuning of the whole step interval and first valve. Towards the end it looks like both hands clasped is the chromatic "crunch" chord, while the fingers indicate dynamic range.

Yup, they are customized hand signals for exercises. Some are the same across corps (like a C shape for tuning Bb) but they are usually come up with on the fly from year to year. This way the guy in front doesn't have to yell in 4-5 different directions over drumlines and other hornlines warming up.

Why not just ask Brad Green directly? He's on Facebook.
