Fran Haring
just thinking, it doesnt need to be tons of drill. i dont think star and ghost moved all the time, but they did move for each piece and sometimes during the full piece, sometimes not. i think the real key was that they both play near perfectly in tune, had great articulations and clean releases, and then added movement for each piece. sometimes a bunch, sometimes just a restaging to keep it interesting so you're not stairing at the same picture the whole time. so I dont think it needs much, but man. both played so well that's what really drove it home. IMO, mini-corps has never really been about the drill as much as it is about the music. Some years, the show has been held on the street... literally... so drills were not really much of an option. It is the perfect venue for that sort of thing. Scranton anyone? Ski slope parking lot uphill? Lit by a temporary gas feed generator? How quickly people forget! And to think people were complaining about Annapolis last year. sheesh

The Rochester location is ideal. And the stadium venues (Scranton in '05, Annapolis 2012 and '13)... were pretty good, too. 2000 and 2001 in Syracuse... the events were held at the convention center in the city, and that, IMO, also was a great spot.
