C2: Interesting times with Hopkins and Templin at helm

Recommended Posts

C2 has announced to members and will announce within the day their show for 2015. It looks to be a beaut!

"The Red Square"

Reed's Russian Christmas Music

Khachaturian's Lullaby from Gayane

Rimsky Korsakov's Dance of the Tumblers from The Snow Maiden

Gliere's Russian Sailor's Dance from The Red Poppy

Note: they plan to march 128 members.

There's something here for everyone.

For the naysayers, yes Hopkins played RCM when he was a Crossmen snare.

For those who think Hopkins picks political statements, well Russia is a current State Dept. hot potato.

For those who think C2 only mimics C1 old shows, yes Cadets did play Tumblers in 2010.

For those who think Cadets only ever replay music SCV did first, yes there is the RSD and they too played RCM once upon a time.

For those who look for new works (to them) there is the Khachaturian piece., which SCV also played as Gayne lullabye in '87.

For those who want a great show for the audience, all of this is great.

For those who want a fast paced show with good Cadet drill and great music, here it is. Enjoy for a great season..

I actually dislike seeing horn lines magically grow between middle of august and start of september. Doesn't matter who it is. And yes, it happens across the board. I just think you shouldn't have 30 holes until mid august, then magically they're all gone come september. hmmmmmm.

However this show, looks promising. SCV and Cadets charts. But it's got a theme, so word up.

Chris,

You don't like the Crossmen??? (Yes, I am old enough to know that Cavaliers and SCV also played it, but we are talking about a corps with its office in Pennsylvania.)

Here's my concerns after last season.

They operate as BOTH a feeder corps, and an All-Ages corps. Much like an NFL team with two Quarterbacks has none, does a DCA corps with TWO M.O.s succeed at neither?

To be honest, i think this is a feeder corps for DCI. And (not unlike the rest of DCA) they fill the ranks with Cadets members when they have 30 holes come finals time. This feels very much like YEA! all over again, except instead of Crown, Crossmen, and the rest dropping money into the pot, its Cadet Seconds, throwing money at dreams they may never get to achieve.

Will they finally play a show catered to their own members, instead of another "Best Of" of their #1 corps in the organization? Or will it be another season of "here's a great chart from 89, one from 96, and the closer from 00." ? To be honest, which will the members learn more from? Is the organization even concerned with them learning?

Gotta start somewhere.

To hit the ground running from start up and be a top 5 corps is almost unheard of in DCA.

Well... if DCA is supposed to be all about doing shows/playing music that general audiences can "get"... and IMO, that's what it should be all about... then this show is a potential home run. Maybe a grand slam.

LOL thinking of C2 (YEA being known for cutting edge) beating Buccs while playing a Reading standard of "Russian Sailors Dance". The irony meter would peg out.... Also liked Buccs version from late 70s so interested in what a mid 2010s version would be like.
