The southern swing continues, as The Thoroughbreds gallop back into the lead at Enterprise HS in southeastern Alabama, The Colonels ran roughshod over Confederate Regiment Cadets and Mirfield Lockmen prevented the Bluegrass group from a clean sweep with their win over Enlightenment.

Corps in Columbia SC were split up this evening. World Class corps marched through Dawson Stadium in nearby Orangeburg, where Quiksilver and Buckeye Brass tied and Star of Jupiter, Violet Knights and River City Regiment were very close behind. Irmo HS was the site for the Open Class and Class A events, where Mercury polished off Buckeye Brass B and Huddersfield Hundred and Hg held off a determined Buckeye Brass C.

Georgia was on everybody's mind tonight as we had not one but two shows in the Peach State.

At Laney HS in Augusta, Buckeye Brass was in top form tonight as they outplayed an impressive Violet Knights, who put up some strong numbers in Visual and GE but were too far behind in the music caption to win the overall show in World Class. In Open Class, J.R.D.C. was comfortably ahead of San Antonio Xpress, and Stars of St. Louis rode a dominant performance in music to victory in Class A even though 2nd place Confederate Regiment Easy Company had some sizeable leads in both Visual and GE.

Further south, Valdosta's Bazemore-Hyder Stadium, the largest high school venue in the state, needed every inch of space to contain a full field of corps and a near full-capacity audience. The Knights posted their first victory in several events and may be starting to peak at just the right time as they were over a full point ahead of the rest of the field, led by Circle City Sound and The Royal Crusaders. Things were quite close in Open Class as Spirit of Indy finished only a couple tenths ahead of Texas Zephyrs and Abracadabra Academy, while White Chords won an easy victory in Class A over Euphony Cadets, their only competition tonight.

We've been behind this weekend, but score reports are now up for both days' events.

On Saturday, DCPI rolled into Atlanta in a 3-ring circus of venues for most of the corps in action for the last regular Sweepstakes event of the season. At the Georgia Dome, Polaris Regiment came out on top of last season's champion Ivory Brigade and former champion Quiksilver, while The Thoroughbreds kept up well in 4th place as they try to press their championship bid. The Knights wound up sliding back a few spots after their earlier win but hope to turn things around quickly.

Open Class corps were at Lakewood Stadium, a multi-school venue in the Atlanta suburbs. Mercury found their sole undefeated streak in Sweepstakes events ended as they managed a tie with The Colonels, but still maintain a very strong lead in the Sweepstakes standings. Huddersfield Hundred, Star of Hawaii and The Marauders were all jumbled very closely together, meaning that the judges may have a very hard time sorting these corps out come finals week.

Class A corps ventured to Milton HS in the northern Atlanta suburbs, where Mirfield Lockmen triumphed over Hg by the closest of margins (0.005). Xothyme and Cape Cod Regiment were also very close behind, while Crusade, Hoosier Regiment and Euphony Cadets appear to be the last corps on the bubble for finals week.

Sunday was a much different story for several corps. In Huntsville AL, Euphony Empire earned their first victory of the season over Golden Panthers and Great Lakes Sound at Lewis Crews Stadium. Huddersfield Hundred finished over a point ahead of Buckeye Brass B in Open Class Buckeye Brass C won a dominant victory over Easy Company.

At BB&T Field in Winston-Salem NC (moved from Charlotte NC), The Knights roared back to the top of the charts after a disappointing outcome in Atlanta. Buckeye Brass and Dewsbury Regiment. The Thoroughbreds remained in contention while River City Regiment looked to challenge the top corps heading into finals week as well. Open Class saw The Colonels repeat their Atlanta win with another win over Les Blanc Chevaliers, and J.R.D.C. moved all the way up to third place. Finally, Stars of St. Louis had a strong win over Cape Cod Regiment, who may be making a final late-season push of their own.

The regular season came to an end tonight, and if the outcome of tonight's events are any indication, we're in for an amazing finals week this year!

At Laidley Field in Charleston WV, Buckeye Brass had a strong win over Dewsbury Regulars to set themselves as the high scoring corps heading into finals week. The Colonels kept up their momentum with a win over Texas Zephyrs in Open Class, and Buckeye Brass C found their way to a narrow victory over Enlightenment in Class A competition.

At the renovated Dobyns-Bennett HS stadium in Kingsport TN (which has been transformed into an absolutely stunning venue in the last year), Polaris Regiment and The Marauders scored wins in their respective divisions, but Mirfield Lockmen took Class A to spoil a final Forward Dynamics sweep for the regular season. Polaris and Quiksilver were neck and neck down the home stretch, with the Wisconsin corps' edge in Visual carrying them to victory tonight. Circle City Regiment made one last push for the top, and Euphony Empire proved that they may indeed be a dark horse threat come finals week. Further down, Confederate Regiment fell behind River City Regiment. Hopefully this isn't a case of late-season nerves, as they've been doing pretty well this season and many people have given them a strong chance to make finals.

There are no events tomorrow or Wednesday, but we'll be back tomorrow with the seedings for finals week.

Funny how quickly championships week can sneek up on you...but things went pretty well! Alpine Cadets placed 13th in their opening season, which isn't a bad start. Western Wind was making some really good progress in this last part of the season, but ended up 15th overall as other corps also upped their game for finals week.

The Alpine Scouts are hard at work for world championships this weekend, with hopefully a few final surprises in store!
