DCPI Season 23 Discussion Thread

All four regions will be busy with shows today, and corps are hoping that yesterday's higher scores are a sign of things to come.

In the midwest, Dayton OH hosts the largest lineup of corps of the day, with a group so large that this may as well be a regional competition! Due to the number of entrants, this will be a "split-venue" competition, with World Class corps like Aftershock NZ, Buckeye Brass, Pride of Salem and The Royal Crusaders competing at Welcome Stadium on the campus of the University of Dayton and Open Class and Class A corps like Spartan Vanguard, Thunder Cadets, Valley Vanguard, Crusade and Pandemonium NZ will be at the newly-renovated Piqua HS Stadium a little ways north of Dayton.

Also in the midwest, it's mostly Class A corps that will be in the spotlight at Metamora Township HS on the outskirts of Peoria IL.

In the Pacific northwest, the Tri-Cities WA show moves back to Edgar Brown Memorial Stadium due to a smaller turnout for this year's event, with a matchup between the returning Thoroughbreds (who make their debut in World Class this season) and Confederate Regiment.

And in southern California, Violet Knights has the stage all to themselves at Redondo Union HS in Torrance CA.

Phew- those judges need a talking to after last night! Hopefully things will be a little better at tonight's second round of Sweepstakes events.

Like last time, we have 3 events today

Cerritos CA's Falcon Stadium may host the smallest event as far as turnout goes, but it has some of the biggest names on the circuit competing as Quiksilver and Star of Jupiter face off against the Violet Knights, who have gotten off to a very good start this season. Also keep an eye on Open Class, where Texas Zephyrs, Mercury and Star of Hawaii tangle in a 3-way dance.

Boise ID's Simplot Stadium sees champion Ivory Brigade matched up against some of the newest up and coming corps such as Aftershock NZ, Dewsbury Regulars and Dune Battalion. In Open Class, Abracadabra Academy and Dark Knights B could be the two corps to really keep an eye on today.

Back in the Midwest, Muncie IN's Schuemann Stadium hosts the biggest lineup of corps, as groups like Harmonic, The Knights, Polaris Regiment, Great Lakes Sound and many others will all be in action looking to secure sweepstakes points.

Ivory Brigade has been doing decently in most shows. Sad that we haven't yet won a sweeps round. Always placing second in them. First getting upset by the Dark Knights in Rockford and now having last seasons Silver Medallist Circle City Sound beat us in Boise. Hopefully we can get things together and actually manage to win a round.

As a side note Ivory Brigade was my only group not to lose at least 2 points last night.

4 and 5 point drops? Huh? The judging didn't get any better. Maybe not the best runs but I don't think that much went wrong.

Yeah, I can't explain the bizarre scoring either. I'll have to speak with Head Judge Belichek about what's going on.

On the plus side, everybody has received their first bonus caption point today- maybe that will help.

Corps are back in action today after a Sunday off that saw directors gain their first caption point boost of the season. Will this be the week we start seeing scores go up?

With eastern-based corps taking the night off from competition, and hopefully avoiding the mega-blizzard, the focus is on the west and midwest regions today.

Western corps travel to Logan UT for a new event at Utah State University's Romney Stadium (named after the school's former football coach, not the presidential candidate). This venue was suggested as a finalist venue last season, and while too small to fill that role, still should provide a great atmosphere for tonight's matchup between The Thoroughbreds, Ivory Brigade, Quiksilver and Star of Jupiter:

Of the two midwest shows today, Bowling Green OH's Doyt Perry Field gets the larger lineup (as expected). The matchup between Buckeye Brass and The Knights is definitely one to watch, and don't be surprised if the Tri-State Troubadors get themselves into the mix as well.

Finally, venerable Ames Field in Michigan City IN sees the entire Polaris Regiment group of corps in action tonight. Those corps always travel well and the camaraderie among their members is always good.

Wow ... no respect for the "also rans", I guess.

First off, Ames Field in Michigan City was always one of my favorite venues to perform in. There's almost no space between the sideline and the stands, so the DM has to stand in the crowd, and those in attendance get their faces melted by the hornlines. Good memories.

Secondly, we're excited to see how the new additions to the Alpine Scouts and Alpine Cadets' shows come off tonight. Hoping to boost those GE scores and gain a little traction.

man I guess it was the Knights turn to have the floor drop out from under them!

The Alpine corps saw a significant increase in sores last night, but not quite enough to boost them over the 70 mark and into the thick of the competition.

Corps staff members were seen wandering around the food truck this morning muttering something about "those danged GE judges..."
