Southern Knights
Hi Fran! Thank you for your sound advice. That is the plan my friend...long term stability. We are taking things methodically and with a plan. Starting a corps in an area that hasn't had one is a challenge for sure. And when the money is there... the rest is easy. We will only go as far as the money will take us in any given year. There are 6 show contest opportunities within a 3 hour drive of Birmingham. By the way... the World games will be hosted by Birmingham in 2021. We should be ready by then for Opening Ceremonies! I will keep y'all updated as things progress. Follow us online, then come see us when we arrive! John Hoekstra Executive Director

BrassCats
The Rocketeers in Huntsville guarding the Northern boarders with an arsenal full of missile and rocket systems, Southwind at Mobile Bay with Fort Morgan, USS Alabama and USS Drum, and the Southern Knights in the middle at Birmingham with the Vulcan and his sword. I'd say we have Alabama covered. #GrowDrumCorpsSouth Edited January 26, 2015 by BrassCats

Southern Knights
January 27, 2015 Welcome to the Southern Knights Drum and Bugle Corps, and thank you for your recent interest in the corps, based in the Birmingham, Alabama area! As you are no doubt aware, the corps came into being on January 5th (1/5/15). There is much work to do before we can schedule an initial get-together. This e-mail is to bring you up-to-date. We have begun to assemble an administration team. That team currently includes me, my wife Tammy, and Stephan Anderman from Tennessee. People are also being put in place to address fundraising, equipment, and uniform issues. We will be telling you more about the administrative team in the near future. The corps is already generating quite a bit of interest, both locally and nationally. Our instructional staff is also starting to take shape. We are pleased to announce that Mr. Joseph Murphy has already accepted the position of Brass Caption Coordinator. Many of you may already be familiar with Joe’s outstanding body of work as a professional instructor, performer, and with such corps as Spirit of Atlanta / Spirit of JSU, Memphis Sound, and Music City Legend. A number of others have also come onboard to solidify the brass staff. We have established a web presence at www.southernknightscorps.org and a page on Facebook. Do please check us out and ask your friends to do the same! More information will posted to these sites as it becomes available and as we familiarize ourselves with the software. Corps-specific e-mail addresses, such as user@southernknightscorps.org, will be added in due time. There will also be traditional press releases in the drum corps and local media as events warrant. It has not yet been decided what direction the corps will take for the 2015 season. Our options include performing in local parades and functions as they become available to us, in DCI SoundSport, as a DCA “mini-corps”, or as a standstill unit in local events. Be assured, however, that we want to do this right “the first time.” Please feel free to contact us. It promises to be a fun ride – STAY TUNED!
