JustinDMoore
From DCI.NOW: http://www.dci.org/news/view.cfm?news_id=bc5b0c33-42c1-4402-a8c7-f8944775e52a I found this picture of Garfield 1979. I was wondering what the story was behind this?
CHRISP
I believe the corps sang "Amen". Vocals weren't allowed back then and Garfield took a penalty at all shows where they vocalized the Amen. The picture above was from DCI prelims and the chose not to do the vocals and used the sign to explain why.
84BDsop
Yep....the only members who could vocalize on field were the DM(s) and, I think, the color guard captain. This lasted until 1984, when everyone could vocalize.
JimF-LowBari
"I Don't Know How To Love Him" from Jesus Christ Superstar to close the show... And 1 pt (yep full point for talking on the field) Saw them do it once but can't remember exactly where and when. Corps played while marching to the front sideline then slow horns down. "Ahhhhh Mennnnnn" in harmony. As crowd goes batstuff... horns go back up and last note of the show rfl (real freaking loud).
xandandl
Further background... John Hannigan, drum major, is pictured as the corps plays "I don't know how to love him" from Rice-Weber's Jesus Christ Superstar. The song ended with added horns and then a vocal Gregorian Chant "Amen" from the corps. Since the penalty was given previously, Hannigan turned to the crowd who then sang the "Amen." Same effect, no penalty. Edited April 1, 2015 by xandandl
